ScapegoatsOfTheEmpire's rating
World War l was mainly fought on the European, Eurasian, and African continents. There were very few big engagements on the European continent similar to those of World War ll. The European continent had what has been called 'trench warfare.' These trenches can still be seen and examined today; the trenches are forever part of the landscape. This movie shows how boring and horrific living in the trenches was like: the quiet, the dullness, the filth, the monotony of daily life in the trenches is what the writer, producer, and director have successfully shown with no glory; what a remarkable achievement! This should be part of a World War l curriculum.
All the niceties of home are in the forest as well as the horrors of Nazis surrounding them. What to do? The Bielski Brothers, not by design, but by accident, accept all Jewish refugees, clothe them, feed them, protect them, etc. The Bielski Brothers are determined to survive, do not turn away anyone, and fight Nazis when necessary; what these brothers did was remarkable. They built a village in the large woods where all Jews were welcomed, provided for them, nursed them, and at times , fought Nazis to survive. At end of World War ll, several thousands Jews survived; some immigrated to U. S. and started new lives. A different movie of how some Jews fought grnocide, survived, and prospered.
A World War ll movie with no military discipline or courtesy. This movie is so amateurish it is horrible; it is also sloppy. Uniforms are wrong; military weapons are incorrect; story line is pathetic. This is a high school story which is nothing but dribble. How anyone should be happy to make this movie only indicates how desperate they are for the work. What a complete waste of my time. I wanted to like it, but I could not; I laughed in too many places that were funny to me, but the writer did not intend this. This is a movie the writer should return to college for a history of World War ll and learn how 6 June 1944 was accomplished. This to a movie that should languish on the shelf.
