Yeah, this is one of the...um...less true to the book adaptations. It pretty much only kept a thread of the original story. So, if you're looking for a faithful, to the minute adaption of the book, I would try the Joan Hickson one, which is by far the superior.
On the other hand, it looks LOVELY, and as I said, the music is gorgeous. Some people may find it a little over-powering, but I found that I could ignore it and concentrate on the action for the most part. The opening section is amazing. It gave me goosebumps.
Most of the additional characters are supremely silly and over the top, but there are some performances that work very well. However, the relationship between Bess and Elvira is changed considerably, and I had a hard time believing in it.
So, this is one of the ones to just sit back and let the music and style of it wash over you. The plot's a little fuzzy, and some bits are a tad confusing, but it looks and sounds almost magical. If you're a die-hard Christie fan, avoid like the plague, unless you want to be screaming at the telly for two hours. If not, watch and make your own opinion. This is mine.

They chose the wrong novel to adapt. The book was a really light, silly story, but because of the adapting for Television, they had to serious-ise it. And it didn't work very well.
If you look at it unbiased, without any prior knowledge of the book, it's quite decent, if a bit clichéd. Because it was a book with such a strong plot before, everybody is shocked that they dared to change it so much. The costumes etc. are lovely as usual and the acting isn't half bad. Suspense as to who the murderer is is kept right up 'til the end of the solution scene. If you haven't read the book before, watch and you will probably enjoy it, but if you have read the book, don't touch it with a barge pole.
