I liked that they didn't just redo the same classic Superman story however they could have done better than riffing off current events for the character personas, the big bad country invading the good but disadvantaged country so some industrialist can steal the land and resources. Also the script was simplistic at best and the massive overuse of stunts and fight scenes was boring. The actors were the best part decent job with a terrible script. Adding in the theater going experience is SO not what it used to be ... we used to buy movie tickets so we didn't have to endure 30mins of commercials and Ads. I'll be binging Christopher Reeves Superman this weekend to get the love back.
I am really enjoying this show! It moves with grace through impossible situations and does an excellent job portraying the very human side we can only really imagine for those who inherited this kind of power. The actors do an excellent job and the dialog is entertaining. Not sure how close to history it really stays but I think the point here is to show the binds between duty and desire, living and life one inherits vs the one they may want. The costumes are magnificent. The backdrop of the castles and woods are fabulous. Watch in a large hi-definition screen for sure. Excellent weekend binge!
I agree with other reviewer who pointed out how Netflix prompts this as a survival story .... It is but not the shallow human against nurture over done drama. This series is about a woman surviving her past, her insecurities, her doubts with the help of nature and some seriously tough circumstances.
It is beautifully set, brilliantly acted. The male characters do a great job depicting what it could look like to to be a great man and partner. The main actress does extraordinary job letting us see and feel the journey ... it's familiar to many.
I also appreciated the authenticity brought to her struggle both to survive nurture but also her real choice to work through her personal demons. Or is inspiring without being insipid and to Hollywood idealized.
