  • Old school thriller in best way.

This is an old school thriller, it's not trying to rewrite the playbook for how this kind of story should be told. Instead, it's trying to perfect a classic number but with a few modern twist that land really well.

At its core, it is a classic road trip movie, where unsuspecting characters are going to encounter unimaginable horror (disguised as something wholesome) and then have to escape it.

Where it finds itself and becomes more interesting is in just who these unsuspecting characters are and how they relate to each other before the horror begins. The way the horror they encounter reflects on what they were running away from, in their real life. The film wisely juxtaposes the freedom of the road with the thematic and literal prison of the farmhouse to tie these ideas all together.

It's also crossed with a bit of sapphic romance and a bit Thelma and Luis that is very intentional.

Like I said, the movie is old school, but in the best possible way. Generally scary, really well acted and sharply directed. 10/10! Indy filmmaking at its best.
