  • No Way .... Colin Farrell.. Wow .

I came across The Penguin after seeing a review on TV and thought, in a base manner, that the Sofia Falcons character was interesting, I think the actress who played her was being reviewed in a post Penguin role and The Penguin was mentioned towards the of the review.

Having never really been drawn by the Batman thing, my Batman was the 1960s TV series Batman, I was drawn in straight away on episode one , my partner and I enjoyed the first show so much that we watched the rest of the series over a three night spell. But it the platform we watched the series on kind of cut out if the closing credits after say around ten seconds and loaded the next episode straight away (a henious crime as I am the type who enjoys watching the end credits ) so it wasn't until we just finished the final episode that we found out it was Colin Farrell who brought the character of The Penguin alive, as we watched the credits roll....

I would never have guessed that Farrell was hiding inside the main character, never in a million years. Wow.... Just Wow lad. Blew me away there Col.

It was just another gangster series that I would never have watched, at my age I've seen every type of that genre to the point of being bored, but it was the character that Farrell portrayed that made me watch and thoroughly enjoy the series. A downright foul, contemptuous, self serving piece of dirt as you will come across outside of the House of Commons.

I still find it hard to see Colin Farrell at all in his version of Penguin, I honestly thought he nailed it..

  • If this movie was made here in England.. It would never have been released. Ever.

There are certain things that happen, here in England, that could ñever be replicated, enacted or even imagined, over on the other side of the Vast Atlantic Ocean, (confusingly referred to as The Pond, by some), in the United States of America.

    Take Football, for instance.

A game that is as foreign as it to many in the USA as our spelling of words, in the English language.

There are many things that separate us culturally, politically and aspirationally...

Many things that can confuse, dumfound and inflame the passion of Americans, when they consider the superiority of the English nation, in their increasing influence in fields such as Arts, Sciences, Literature, Industry, Education and Democracy, for such a small, insignificant and barely populated Island on the Northwestern edge of continental Europe. Many, many things.

But there are also a number of things... not all That many things... This film being just one of the few things, that confuse us over here, in this Sceptered Land, that we inhabit, that we just don't understand about the weave of the weft, over there in the USA.

We can understand somebody making a movie where the same actors can be directed to play characters, that appear to be acting out scenes that represent someone channel hopping TV shows, wearing the same outfits, in the same locations, in such a chaotic fashion as this film... but .

But.. We can never understand it being released, assuming critical or commercial success.

    It just doesn't work.

    Sorry.
