  • A thorough documentary.

The main reason why I think people should watch this documentary is because it shows, in less than 90 minutes and based on the true story of a country, where corruption, the pursuit of power and drug trading can take you to.

Just like many drug dealers don't think about how they will end up ruining their lives by entering the business, Pablo Escobar, one of the most successful of them all, most likely never thought it would ruin his life and affect his family's even decades after his death. Fortunately their stories remain there as a warning that we shouldn't ignore and that "Sins of my father" reminds the audience.

This documentary is everything from the personal struggle of Escobar's son to deal with his father's life, to the fight of a country trying to become a better place but finding powerful obstacles inside and outside of its borders. It is about the human nature of doing good and about the human nature (which can be awaken early during the childhood) to do bad and destroy.

Finally it is a story about regret, forgiveness and the direction in which we all should go: "pa' adelante".

  • Another good review and this is why:

Thirty minutes into the movie and it'll be almost impossible not to start thinking about how it might end, like with most conspiracy theorists everyone will think they know the answer but most will be wrong.

Yes, the movie might be similar in many ways to many others because of the winter European atmosphere and the "guy against the world" feeling, but it keeps a good balance between the unrealistic things that you normally watch in an action movie and a plot that is both interesting and believable.

If you add a great leading actor and two stunning actresses to the story, it makes perfect sense that the difference between the gross and the budget is of more than 100 million dollars.

  • A (more) realistic medieval story

Even though at the beginning of the movie the characters talk about a remote place where people are bringing others back from the dead, you should expect a medieval movie that sets aside the fantasy looks from Lord of the Rings to replace them with a much more realistic approach in which warriors have dirty teeth and you can almost perceive their stench.

Set during the difficult Dark Ages when society could only find answers through religion and superstition, this is mainly the story of a man who is trying to find himself and make some sense of a world in a critical moment and while living among two antagonistic groups.

The movie might be a bit slow at moments, but the story has enough to leave you debating about fanaticism, how some events can change perceptions forever and about life having grey tones instead of the black and white we sometimes prefer to see.
