My favourite film of each year since I was born. Obviously I haven't seen every film ever... so this is an ongoing list

The word auteur is thrown around quite a lot now'a'days, but as anyone that has ever seen an 'Anderson' film could attest, his films are basically a genre of their own

Also this list is in very rough order even after my partner helped me work out the order with a blind round Robin bracket - (Please don't underestimate just how hard it is to collate and rank 250 films all of varying genres individually - some matchups, 'in order' are going to seem like mismatches... I can't help that)

I'm not saying these movies are bad, but some moments are just ridiculous.

Genre Film Guide: Best Children’s Movies

It's not really a genre, more-so a sub-genre of Romance targeted toward women using a plethora of tropes that make men sigh with contempt. Nevertheless there are some "chick flicks" out there that are actually really good; and not just for women either.  Now most of the time these films are led by female protagonists but it's not unheard of for women to empathise with a male lead either, so defining this genre is pretty much impossible other than to say chicks dig it;  for the purpose of this list let's just say these movies prominently feature women who probably fall in love and shop and whatever, but basically it all ends happily ever after... cause why not... sooo here it is...  Also please don't criticise how it's ordered; I had an absolute nightmare trying to balance the list in terms of film quality and execution of the genre. The results are eclectic to be sure

I've already done a "Monster" movies list so maybe this list is kind of redundant... but I thought why not you know? So here's my list of my favourite zombie films. For me fantasy is more than just a collection of fantastical otherworldly tropes. Fantasy as a genre is the creation of a whole new world; a place of magic and monsters; of myths and legends; a setting with its own ideology, culture, history and people that feels so distant from that of our own that to fully delve into its mythology can only ever raise more questions, more tangents due to the worlds almost never ending history and complexity in construction.  In fact some of these films are still expanding their almost never ending canon, as in-world historical events sprawl out from the first and original story that these films often explore. This is a list that covers these amazing films based within these expansive worlds, and as such they contain all the familiar tropes to do with magic, world-building, and of course, good triumphing over evil.

As always this is an ongoing list, and for a genre as widespread as this one, there is no way I've seen all the best movies within it yet, so feel free to help out and comment your suggestions.

You would be surprised but it's a harder genre to define than most, as such I've rounded this list down to a couple of sub-genres most commonly associated with it: Detective, Prison, Courtroom, Heist & Vigilante. Enjoy

Many great films contain Sci-Fi elements, but this list refers to those movies that fit within the mould of a classic Science Fiction film, often taking place in an alternate universe or the future

These films don't just look into our possible future offering insights into the human psyche, but also create flourishing worlds all of their own

...(To reiterate, films like 'Inception' or 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' are great films with Sci-Fi elements, but pertain to other genres more heavily) This is an ongoing list, so feel free to add suggestions in the comments

Music as a genre isn't exactly confined to the Musical. Although that would be ones first instinct, some films are able to develop a narrative as much through music as character development or setting; treating music as its own character, with its own voice.

This list will be compiled of my favourite films where I believe music to be very much its own character... I will forewarn, I am not a great fan of the Musical genre, so many of my picks may be outside the box of traditional Musical trope. However, music is definitely a major component of each of these films. 

As always, this is an ongoing list and I am always up for recommendations; particularly with this list, as it is a genre that I consider myself something of a novice in.

What makes a 'charming' movie you ask? Well it's difficult to say really... Personally I think it's through a relatable character acting in a way we wish we all could. Whether through an incorruptible innocence, or rebellious delusion these characters are just living their own life, and it is this self-determinant liberty, this care-free self assuredness by which these characters live that we can all admire and aspire to have...

More simply put, these are films are just entirely agreeable. They contain likeable characters, often simple linear narratives, happy endings, and obviously they cause an inexplicable feeling of delight within the viewer when watched.

The Emotive Film Guide: Most 'Charming' Films

Thus far I've compiled lists of my favourite genre specific films; but honestly I'm running out of genres, so this list will cater for more vague tastes and paves the way for a new list series; The Emotive Film Guide, where I will list films on the basis of an emotion or expression. Sometimes you want to watch a movie but you just don't know particularly what you want to watch; a drama, horror, action adventure... you don't know what you want, but you feel like watching something beautiful. Well have I got the list for you!  Right here I have composed a list of films that are truly stunning with regard to cinematography, narrative and sound.

Whether it be through staggering landscape shots, fantastic hand drawn animation, swelling score, or even incredible acting, these films can undoubtedly be described as beautiful; and although these visually striking films can sometimes be inexplicable in nature to an audience, it's always so easy to love and admire their unique aesthetic that a combination of these film techniques can create.

Stories that centre on exceptional beings as they fight off a threat or nemesis

let's not get too particular about who is and isn't a 'super' hero, this list concerns the specifics of the genre rather than the classification of powers. As such, movies like X-men, Chronicle, Jumper, etc, are social commentary films about persecution more so than they are classic battles between good and evil, and therefore will not go on the list

You'll find no Twilight in this list.  Compiled here are my favourite creature films; Vampires, Werewolves, Dragons, Trolls and Zombies... the list goes on. But each film pertains to certain genre specific threads related to the 'inhuman' and how these archetypes reflect back upon our very own dark human instincts and desires. Although most of these films aren't your classic monster horror flick (something I've done intentionally in order to create a very unique and eclectic list of films), they each contain and showcase elements of supernatural/ mythical creature tropes, with my favourites generally sticking to typical tropes of the genre. For some of the less obvious picks I'll write a brief description explaining the decision, but obviously this list is subjective to my opinion so feel free to comment any suggestions; I love a discussion
