It's clear that some people are giving this documentary low ratings without having actually watched it. Even the longer written reviews that assign low scores seem to stem from partisan defensiveness rather than an assessment of the documentary's quality or the significance of the subject. The inclusion of retired service members and respected former government officials from both political parties adds credibility to the film. While the documentary isn't perfect, it is generally well-made and provides a thoughtful examination of its topics. It is framed in relation to the events of January 6, and how you feel about that will likely influence your perspective on the documentary. However, if you take the subject matter seriously, don't let disingenuous review bombing or conspiracy theories sway your opinion. Please watch it and make your own judgment.
I liked Hunter, but I really disliked Ritchie and his family. They had far too much influence over their son's relationship, which made it difficult for anyone to be happy. Anyone who truly loves their partner would not tolerate the kind of treatment she had to endure after her initial hospitalisation.
I would have preferred to see a much more in-depth characterisation of Hunter's family; I think they would be much more interesting than her in-laws.
The encounter with her birth father was far too brief and could have been much more impactful. However, I appreciate that it served its purpose in her story.
