What a shocker! I didn't think I would enjoy this but had time to kill. I was impressed enough to post a review, which I never do. The characters pulled me in and really made me feel something. Make me feel something, angry, sad, happy, scared, confused, anything. A good movie (for me) takes me away from my life and lets me see the world through others eyes for an hour and a half. This is not a prospective I would ever have imagined I would enjoy but I did. By the end of the movie I was rooting for Pati and her friends. I really felt vested in what I was seeing all a while through their eyes. Great acting, great story, great idea all around. Watching this movie was time well spend. Kudos!
This is on Netflix and is available for streaming. There is an English version there also. Having lived in South Korea for 7 years and being a speaker of Korea myself I learned quite a bit about life in North Korea. This documentary did a great job at showing you just how messed up life is there. I respect other cultures but embrace differences but the difference there is not something worthy of being accepted by anyone. A great watch for anyone interested in North Korea. The English title is The Red Chapel . Great laughs while learning something at the same time. Recommended watch. One review here struck me wrong. To say the leadership in NK does not care about the outside perceptions of their country is not correct. The leadership of NK has always taken EXTREME measures to protect what they consider the worlds view of them. Some of the antics by Kim Jung Ill and his Father were almost funny to watch. The story of the flags in the JSA is a good mine is bigger than yours story. Prior to Jung Ill dying he was known for wearing platform shoes to appear taller when on camera. It is also known that the people behave one way when cameras are on and another when off. All the time.
I just finished watching this movie and much to my surprise I found it very enjoyable. I am a huge U2 fan from their early days so that may have added to my positive review of the flick but who does not love U2 LOL. The movie would be fun even if not a U2 fan, being a fan is just an added bonus. So the movie was fun overall. Quite entertaining and easy to watch. Would rather see Irish actors playing Irish roles but the English actors did well. I am unsure if this movie is as much of a true story as it seem, I have not researched as of yet. If this is actually a true story then it is even more entertaining. This was a good watch and great acting, story, and presentation. Nice addition to movie night.
