This episode primarily suggests that artificial intelligence (AI) acts as a kind of alien Trojan horse that could be activated once it reaches a certain level of sophistication. This perspective misses the mark, as it lacks input from individuals with a foundational understanding of AI development. At its core, AI consists of complex data structures designed to process and analyze the information fed to them. The notion that AI might inherently harbor a Trojan-like threat is akin to claiming that a data compression algorithm possesses hidden dangers. Both technologies are implemented using programming languages that developers understand well. Therefore, if any malicious intent were to be embedded within an AI system or a similar algorithm, it would arise from deliberate human intervention rather than an intrinsic quality of the technology itself. This misunderstanding oversimplifies the nuanced nature of AI and overlooks the critical role of ethical programming and oversight in its development. The repeated promotion of this narrative tainted the entire series for me.

The visuals are highly detailed, and the plot appears quite original. Most of the sets seem to be practical and interconnected, allowing for long takes that enhance the realism. Additionally, the sets are equipped with monitors displaying realistic data and controls.

The portrayal of AI is generally neutral, featuring a variety of AI characters, from a powerful ruler of the galaxy to a more humorous, lighthearted one.

However, sorting out the timeline of the episodes can be confusing until near the end of the season. For instance, the first season begins in the "present time," but later episodes explore the backstory of several previous "beacon keepers" without clarifying where in the past these events took place. A couple of times, I thought it had jumped to another series.

After disproving several outlandish ones in the first season, they would explain what caused the odd appearance. By season 3, most are "still unsolved". It devolves into 5-10 minutes of "Look at this weird video" and the rest teasers of each hour of the show. The experts are laughable at times. For example, a couple gets an alert that someone is outside. They check the video feed and see a ghostly figure walking across a parking lot. In season 1, they would have explained that this is a person made ghostly by a log exposure / slow shutter speed used to push a camera sensor past its usable range to brighten the image. Instead, a "security expert" has no clue what it could be other than a ghost. They would have received better analysis by asking people on Facebook.
