All I can say, is those who didn't care for it, must not have understood it. This was insanely powerful. "I love you when you're like this". I fully understand this. I was that little girl. While others say it's a slow burn, I just thought it was excellent acting. It gives you chills. I had an inkling as to what it was going to be because I read some of the reviews. Is this scary? Yes and no. It's definitely not your traditional horror movie, but it is terrifying in so many ways because it reflects truth for many of us. Those we love the most are the ones who hurt us the most. "I love you when you're like this."
I think I may be at a point where if I see Nick Cage or the Maika Monroe as having leading roles, I just need to pass it by. This was beyond slow, super odd, and had excruciating pauses in the dialog. I feel like someone went so hard on trying to make this film artistic, that they just they're leaving the audience to watch the paint dry. Nothing about it is scary, nor is it a thriller leaving you on the edge of your seats. It's more something that gives you a terrible headache. And you can totally tell it's Nick Cage. It falls in line with all his weird movies he's been making lately. Dude has a high paid PR team for advertising these terrible movies.
