I think it takes certain perspective to enjoy this film and to return to it over the years.
Filmed in the sunny and dry area of California. A couple brothers on opposite ends survive in trailer together while they compete from opposite schools on the track.
The dialogue written feels plastic and forced. It's hard to say, "the acting could be better " when you're stuck in a box of cookie cutter writing.
It's nostalgic for me. I came from cheap living and dirt public schools. I did track for a year in high-school. I had a younger brother that I shared a room with. So all these things, I guess, remind me in this film. I've also been a fan of Pitt in the 90s. Not so much these days, but his struggle working up the chain was fascinating as horrible as that sounds.
I'll probably still be visiting this one 20 years from now in my 50s.

Pretty interesting film in general. It's wacky like a Tarrantino flick, just on a much lower budget.
A flavorful assortment of characters and actors to portray them. I certainly wasn't expecting Harvey Keitel to be a roaming hippie/preacher.
I'm so exhausted with remakes, sequels, prequels and Marvel, that this came off as something rather refreshing.
By no means is this film perfect, it has it's problems. The gun fire looked animated and off put recoils or lack of recoil from the actors and rarely were there any shell casings. Though the film does come with a number of shootouts with outlandish characters that seem like they were out of mad max. It was fun.
Probably deserves a 7/10, but I appreciate originality... The few times we see it anymore.

Man, I missed this guy, I think we all did and he deserved every second of his standing ovation. What an emotional role to bounce back into the spot light.
In fact almost all of the performances were really well done.
I'm still blown away that this film was done in ONE location. That's extremely rare and extremely difficult to pull off on a feature length film. But they pulled it off.
This film definitely had me wincing at times and shuddering around the female characters -- all of them were angry all the time. Scary environment. While all the male roles were calm and positive.
Beautiful lighting as well. Highly recommended film.
