It was my husband of 54 years idea to see this movie, having only gone on the information of just who was in it.. but not having any idea what it was about. He turned to me, half way through and said "This is a girls movie"... da And I only went because HE wanted to see it. I think he thought it was more on the lines of the movie "Somethings Gotta Give".
I love all but one (Jane Fonda) of the actresses in this movie. Being that I am the same generation of most of them I thought I could relate to the subject matter these women seemed to be encountering...but, aside from a few laughs, the message it conveyed to me made me depressed, not happy and I left the theater sadder then I went in.
Maybe its because times have changed to much for me to see the "fun" in message they are trying to convey here. Online dating, sex on the first date, etc
It may be the "thing" to do for the younger, high tech generation but I like the old school ways. (Obviously, having been married this long) I like to think that I keep up with the times and I understand looking for love and a partner to share life with but to begin your search by reading a soft porn book to "light your fires again" just turned me -off-. I think we are better then that.
Sorry, this one is -not- a keeper. To bad, I was hoping for more from this.
I first saw this film years ago, when rather young. Those were the days of black and white productions and severe censorship. But movies back then, to me, had substance and didn't rely on special effects, violence or sex to sell them. This movie made a very lasting impression on me. I have never forgotten it and have even searched for years for a copy of the film to see again.
It was the life journey of a married couple, and it only took place in one room...their bedroom. Each scene was separated by years, and each was a poignant moment in their lives together. Young love, loss, betrayal, and finally loneness and death. It was in many ways sad but the ending was up lifting.
Rex Harrison was wonderful in this old film.
Just wish I could find a copy of it to keep. At this stage of my own married life (50 years) I understand it so much better, but as a young girl it taught me many things about the trials of keeping lasting relationships together.

Based on a review I heard on TV of it being a good film I went and saw it today. Half way through the film I wanted to walk out. The beginning had possibilities, but it went all down hill after that. I couldn't connect to the characters, nor was the story line very good and the movie dragged. It didn't hold my interest and in the end it felt like I watched a cheap elaborate video game for some kids. The language was horrible with the F bomb thrown throughout, even in the music at the end. What a huge waste of time and money. When are they ever going to make a GOOD Sci-Fi film that comes across as believable and holds your imagination????? And makes you feel like you have a brain in your skull that you can use to think with?? This one was laughable.
