I loved the original film and this new brought back all those same cosy feelings. The choreography was particularly in thst timeless tradition of quality and did not dissapoint. The songs are, to be honest, not as memorable but the thrill of seeing at least two original cast member cameos was really quite exciting! It holds up as a movie in its own right but for those of us who remember the original it certainly serves as a magical present just to know what happened next.
I cannot believe I have never come across the British film before. Reg Varney was excellent in the leading role. His characterization of the Comedy Host of the Holiday Camp was played to perfection It's a sad story but full of 1970-s colour, and I don't just mean the caravan curtains. Jane Seymour makes her pre-Live and Let Die appearance in a bit part and gorgeous David Lincoln (Family at War) is excellently cast. I always wonder what happened to him. Complete with the serenely beautiful Diana Coupland this film is a must see for all true Britflick fans.
Without giving anything away and me being a stickler for reality even in the most unrealistic of movies this runaway train would have fallen into the English Channel by the time the passengers did their stuff.
Before the film gets going (between London and Tunbridge Wells)a journey that takes less than an hour and they have had a few good kips in between like they are crossing Canada instead of south east England! And where did they get this train??? Never seen any rolling stock like that in the UK.
And not one person from BTP or Network Rail or BR seemed to notice the train was a runaway. Thoroughly daft movie.
