I didn't realise it when randomly selecting this from my 600+ watchlist on IMDB that I'd be watching this movie on the day of its 25th anniversary of its release in US. That sort of compels me to write something about it. I give a 5 as I'm struggling to define this movie and had mixed feelings about it. I read some of the reviews and I am glad people found this so moving. I can see a review where someone loved it on first watch but watching it again 15 years later they thought it was rubbish. There's a reason for that, I think, this movie captured the zeitgeist at the time quite well but perhaps struggles to retain the magic in the delivery of its message 25 years later, and that's the unfortunate part of any classic, very few survive the test of time and are truly timeless. There are rare examples, perhaps the tales of Arabian nights that have lasted hundreds of years or other similar stories, that retain their magic. Don't get me wrong, the messages of this movie, one of which is articulated eloquently in the last scene, are immensely profound, and important, they always were, they probably always will be.
