EDIT: I have changed the review from 7 to 5 because I stopped watching the show about 3/4 of the way through Series 1. I don't know what happened, I was into it and then all of a sudden I realised that I just didn't care enough to sit through hours and hours of it.
The reason? I think there is too much focus on the daughter and her boring 'deep' monologues. The story of the brutality of the West is entertainment enough. But it just stops with these inserts. As I'm writing this I've realised that I can't help but feel that perhaps this is a cunningly disguised teenage girl coming of age story series disguised as a show about the Old West. Not the other way round, hence my realisation that I couldn't sit through it any more.
"So I have only watched a few episodes of Yellowstone and thought I'd start at the beginning and am watching this instead.
I have to say I'm impressed so far-whilst it's not as gritty as other recent films in portraying the sheer dirt and horror of the West it really isn't far off so well done for that.
Buuuuut related to this there are two casting choices that are baffling. The first one is Faith Hill. She is botoxed and styled like she could walk into an episode of a Housewives reality show.
And the second baffling choice is the styling of the young daughter. Yes she is pretty etcetc but she has dyed blonde hair!
It seems petty but so far these are pivotal characters so all of the effort to create a world of the Wild West is totally blown out of the water.
I hope the first season manages to climb above this rather silly and baffling idea!"
