So far, the 'alien' is a distraction to a much more interesting story between the corporations running earth, and their own technological/cybernetic pursuits. Honestly every time we get back to the downed ship I get bored, because I just don't care about the characters since there aren't any 'stakes' in the characters yet. Such a disappointment. I'm literally bored when the alien is on screen and can't wait for the next scene without it. Also, the production/art direction for the kills (mostly off camera) are thoughtless and forgettable. Not sure where this is going, but these first two episodes are focusing on all of the wrong things in an otherwise interesting story. I hope they save it and I'm just wrong about the direction here.
Really enjoyed the first episode. The families are awesome so far. Great set up, historically interesting, very curious how this develops. Not usually into reality tv, but tuned in to this one because of the 'controversy' and was pleasantly surprised. I hope they really
Dive into the daunting frontier existence especially around growing enough food to sustain your family (while expending valuable calories to grow the food in the first place). And some of the common tragedies and hardships of frontier life ( bad neighbors, bad luck, weather events, etc). Overall off to a good start, we'll see where it goes!
Actors? Amazing... everyone in this film gave 1000%. Production? Fantastic. Cinematography? Couldn't ask for better. Hair and makeup? Nailed it. Costumes. Yes please. Direction and writing? Totally missed the boat. There were so many narrative misses in this film... so many emotionally wasted moments... lazy story telling that was unworthy of the overall narrative. This ended up feeling like poverty/tragedy porn for rich A24 audiences masquerading as a 'great film'. And no where in the film were the wrestling fans or the wrestling entertainment industry given any gravity. Which unfortunately made the whole family narrative land as pointless and cynical. Art house failure.
