While the tv series is admittedly visually impressive and the acting good, it lacks the detail of the books, as well as changing some of them! Why change a masterpiece? I strongly recommend reading the books if you haven't already. I read them in high school for pleasure, as I loved sci-fi, and still do. It was heavy going but I got there in the end, and am glad I did!
I love James Garner films, especially western, especially old ones. This one from the Disney studios is a gem, featuring a very young Jodie Foster as a 10 year old girl with a crush on the "little Indian" who turns out to be not an Indian at all.
OK, so it might be a bit corny for modern tastes, but the acting is flawless all around, especially Garner and Vera Miles and the "little Indian" played by Clay O'Brien. The camels are great too, obviously played by camels. Whoever their trainer was did a great job!
If you like good clean family entertainment without senseless filler, then I recommend this film could be for you!

OK, so it's not a side-spitter. What it is, is very intelligent. I'm not the smartest man in the world either, but I know enough to know that there are a lot of dumb-asses in this world. This future world in the movie is made for Donald Trump. Imagine a whole world dumber than he is. Scary!
I just basically floated along for the ride. Great plot, well acted and funny. It didn't take time travel to get to the future, but it would have been needed to get home. Not physically possible, not now, not ever! The scientist in me would have me very smart in this future. I'm intelligent, but not so smart. Watch it, it's fun!
