In the recent past television series have been elevated, especially dramas. Where the US has Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, Dexter etc.. the UK has this little gem.
As far as detective shows go, i cannot say i have much time for them. apart from Dexter(which is really about a psychopath), Sherlock and this. So i feel as though i can give an unbiased opinion on it.
DCI John Luther is a troubled man who uses unorthodox methods in order to catch the criminals who terrorize the streets of a modern day London, some of which boarder on a moral grey area and tiptoe across the boundaries of the law. The other characters worth mentioning are Alice, a sociopath who makes for some great TV viewing, she takes this show from being a typical police drama and she turns into a completely different show with her strange good looks and screen presence. Its difficult to imagine anyone who could own a scene that includes Idris Elba who in one of England's finest actors, but she manages to. The other is DS Justin Ripley who is fine officer and a loyal friend to Luther.
All in all this show hits the mark, for me anyway. It is gritty, dark, intense and at some moments scary. Some of the violence is quite graphic and people who cannot tolerate seeing nasty people doing nasty things should perhaps avoid this one.
I realise i did not go into much detail but i did not want to spoil it for anyone, believe me when i say that it took me a while to find the time to watch this, i tend to find things don't live upto the hype, but im glad i watched this little peach. So much better than i thought it would be.
If i was to try and talk about some of the negative parts of the show... perhaps that there are only 14 episodes in total, sometimes the violence feels slightly over the top. And in an episode one of the deaths make no sense.
I would give this a 10/10 for breathing a breath of fresh air into police dramas, also a 10/10 for Idris on top form and a 10/10 for Ruth Wilson.

I rarely come onto IMDb to rant about a bad film, i only take the time to write a review if i really enjoyed a certain movie. This however, was dreadful from start to finish. Scary movie 1 and 2 were very funny imo and 3 had a few laughs in it 4 was just about watchable, but this was bad. Its hard to believe how this film was even made and whats more shocking is that the actors actually thought it would be a good idea to be in it.
I will point out that i am not a huge fan of horror films so i may not have a great knowledge on some of the movies being parodied. I shouldn't and wouldn't expect a movie like this to be 10/10 as it is just a silly parody movie and i have seen the others in the series. The writing was okay in the previous ones and there were definitely laughs throughout but this one the writing is awful and the movie relies heavily on slapstick humour. I half giggled once i think in the whole movie.
I wouldn't bother wasting your time to see this, i even think 'A haunted house' is better than this and that is saying something. I can see why Anna Farris wasn't in it.
1/10 I hope this is the last one.
