You have to watch it twice in order to really appreciate the work they have done with this series. The first time you watch it, you really don't know what to expect. It take an amount of time to settle things and start the ride. But many details that appears in the first episodes are unnoticed because of that. The second time you watch it, you can really appreciate all the details and better understand the story. Rebecca Ferguson is good as usual, but the general casting is very good and they all put their heart in it. Tim Robbins is also impressive in his role. In the second season, Steve Zahn really nailed his caracter. If you close your eyes, you can almost see a 12 years old child. I gave a 9 stars rating because many background actors were not so good... it breaks the natural flow.
5 stars for the CGI team and the effort of the actors. But unfortunately the story could not fill a page. As soon as the movie starts, you understand that it's made by fans of Existenz. And the more the movie progresses the more you feel that they wanted to create another organic universe and play with it, but they didn't have the main element... the story. So the final result is a bit empty, a bit chaotic, full of organic stuff, and a teenager who knows absolutely nothing of the world is supposedly working with highly advanced research in biology and genetics with dirty equipment in an incredibly dirty environment. And guess what, after a few this and that, and a drop of this, it works!
When I read the bad reviews, I couldn't believe it. I said to myself: this is Snider, it can't be as bad as they say... Well, I was right, the bad reviews are unfounded, and I seriously wonder what's wrong with these people who have left so many bad reviews. This film is a phenomenal visual spectacle! Everything about it is perfect. Every scene is a work of art. You can feel everyone's hard work and talent. At every moment, I was exclaiming WOW! And WOW! And more WOW! The costumes, sets, atmospheres, characters, etc. And the breathtaking shots... everything is perfect. The first part left me a little perplexed, as I wasn't expecting such a scenario, but the second part clarified a lot of things, and we can then grasp the whole work. I very much hope there will be a sequel soon.
