The series has had ups and downs, this one is definitely one of the better ones. Absolutely heartbreaking moment with the exit stage right of Tony Todd, a fantastic actor and by all accounts absolutely wonderful human being. Total respect to the directors here letting Tony give his own goodbye to the fans in his final dialog - everyone knew this was his last time onscreen, and he left us some warm and meaningful words and walked away with a smile at the camera and a whistle on his lips. I genuinely teared up at the scene and took me a bit to pull myself together - rest in peace, Mr. Todd, the world is a little darker without you.
Hard to say much because this movie is an emotional masterpiece. Both Driver and Johansson are absolutely flawless in their performances. I cannot recommend this movie enough to anyone who wants a film with depth, emotion, characters, and realism. Definitely should be an Oscar contender for both leads, direction, and script at the very least.
I haven't watched this one in a while, so decided to go back to give it another look - it's actually a much better Superman movie than people give it credit for. Yes, there are a couple of questionable plot points, but overall the movie is sound and is 100% in the spirit of the 1978 Superman/Superman II. Brandon Routh is fantastic in continuing Christopher Reeve's Clark/Superman, there are some fun shoutouts to the movies/comics, and the original John Williams score is still iconic. Honestly, comic book fans shouldn't pass this one up.
