  • What a movie!!!

    Sully!!!

It was Jan 2009 when I was all ready to come to Oman and Sully happened! The news was all over TV. An Airbus 320 had actually 'landed' on a river! And all were alive! In the coming days, the miracle would be written and spoken about across the globe.

And now in 2016, when I had first seen the trailer of Sully, I knew this was a movie I cannot afford to miss. Then the added excitement of the opening of the first IMAX in Oman and sully being the first film. So here it was, my first IMAX experience and that to with Sully.

Sully, played by Tom Hanks is nothing short of a great movie ever made. Forget the incident and its re-creation. It was all about Chesley Sullenberger, the Captain of the flight, whose presence of mind, grit and above all experience saved everyone on that flight. Not once did I remember Tom Hanks (well, maybe the first scene). His conviction of the roles he plays is really stupendous. The movie enacts what happens and goes to show what transpired thereafter which only a few might be aware of.

The movie shows, how the lives of 155 individuals collaborates towards one destiny on that day. The worries, thoughts, tension, remembering their loved ones, prayers, all captured in those few moments when the aircraft is poised as if in time, before the ultimate undecided moment.

The big screen experience really made me live the scenes. Being a flying enthusiast and a flight simmer myself, I really freaked out at all the cockpit scenes and shots.

What more would you expect from the Daddy of Cinema, Clint Eastwood himself? The direction, editing, acting is truly flawless. Enjoyed every frame of this movie.

A Hollywood production you ideally should not miss. And if you have the opportunity to see it in IMAX, don't miss it. As it has been shot on IMAX and the scenes are tailor-made to be enjoyed there. A story you would never want to live but definitely want to know, what had happened!

  • Why to go and see MSDhoni - The Untold Story

DHONI - The Guy and Within

A quiet winter morning, the sun barely able to make its presence felt through the haze. A small second floor flat in a building desperately asking for a makeover after the elapsed monsoons. A few pigeons eating out of the hands of a child hanging out in the balcony. This is a typical moment in the lives of millions who inhabit the so called 'small towns' in India. Yet, this was the start of a journey, for a person called Mahi.

An avid goal keeper in school, whose 'dodging the ball' skills were spotted and honed into a successful wicket keeper by his teacher. Every successful face has a story to say. Rarely do we get to know facets of people whom we idolize. M S Dhoni – The untold story, is an endeavor to try and unveil a few pages of his life and give a peek behind the face of Dhoni, into his heart and mind.

Many anecdotes we may know of and recall, but then so many we don't. Interesting to witness those. Not to forget all those who played such a vital role in shaping him as an individual, prodding him on as a sportsman and helping him groom and grow. The movie gives due credit to all those.

The movie tends to go back and forth a bit as if unable to choose whether to show his cricket prowess or peek into his personal life. Sushant Singh Rajput seems to have worked hard in impersonating him on field. And the ladies in his life showcased by two new faces have done a commendable job in this film. Am sure will be spotted by noted talent spotters after this. That's going out for Kiara Advani and Disha Patani. Wishing you'll the very best.

Anupam Kher, Rajesh Sharma (hehehe my name sake), Bhumika Chawla and others have done a good job. A good learning for all the kids. Perseverance, dedication and the will to succeed can get you places. And can make you who you are destined to be, not merely who you might choose to be.

Critical review of the movie am leaving to those who are best at it. Here are only highlighted reasons why you should see it.

Just 35 years of age. Yet so much to share. That's Mahi or Dhoni for you. Go see, feel, live a slice of his life, for that's what you will manage in about 3 hours when they try and capture a lifetime of experiences.

  • Nil battey Sannata - The Complex Journey of a Simple Life. By Rajesh Sharma

A film that released in April 2016 back home. Even though I so wanted to view it, could not get the chance then. But then, as they say all good things come to those who wait. Managed to see it recently. Revolving around a mother-daughter duo, this simple story has taken on itself the job of answering so many questions that we face in our very own lives and seldom challenge ourselves to find the answers to.

Swara-BhaskarThe ever talented #SwaraBhaskar plays a single mother, uneducated and someone who moves earth and skies to make ends meet. A sweet girl called Riya Shukla plays her 10th Class daughter.

For every parent, their child is always the dearest to them. Then why does this very child become an irritant at times, with the passing years? Why do we lose our cool every now and then, with the same child we were swooning about? The film has tried to identify and portray this transition and maybe also provide answers to the viewers.

Personally, I feel there is a very thin line which defines the relation. And on crossing the same its no more a parent and child relationship. It becomes a relationship between two human beings. And along with that comes jealousy, competition, opposition and One-upmanship. Sounds bad right? Dwelve within to discover where you stand. No one comes clean, maybe not even me.

But the answer lies in sticking behind the line, on your side. And its only through your experience and wisdom, can you possibly identify it.

Its a great story of a mother challenging her own self to change her daughter's destiny. A journey of not just change, but also self-discovery. A journey of endless possibilities which are awaiting to be tapped by those who dare and those who try.

Amazing portrayal by all. Swara is a great performer, as always. Supported aptly by Riya, who herself has done a fantastic job. Very natural. And then we have the talented Ratna Pathak Shah and Pankaj Tripathi. The film packages various emotions from your childhood days (best recalled by those who did schooling in 1970s and 1980s). Found shades from my nostalgic past to enliven my thoughts and emotions.

Great job Ahwiny Iyer Tiwari! Loved the movie and will look forward to more gems from your side in the future.

View it. Get the DVD home and see how easily the message transcends across generations. •Rajesh Sharma •@rajrad
