Mumblegore is similar to the Mumblecore genre but horror related, usually independent productions with dialogue driven stories, lower budget and directed by a cadre of young directors including Ti West, Adam Wingard, EL Katz & Joe Swanberg.

These films draw energy in showcasing the real life and the genuine terror that we all fear and work against. These are the films that win Oscar's hands down and pretty much will stay in your mind, making you cringe with shock and displeasure.

Whether it is extremely gory and graphic scenes of death or brutalizing hapless victims the genre called Torture Porn has pushed the limits of modern horror into areas even the Exploitation Movies of the 1970's and 1980's dared not go.

It seems nowadays that people have to use bigger and deadlier guns to get their point made. Thanks to John Woo it now takes two big .45 were when one worked just as fine. Screen violence has hit new levels, and audiences seem to cry for more. It makes you wonder who the real villains are, the on-screen thug or the audience cheering it on.

Although Zombie films were pretty much an American thing, it was the Italians who pushed the Zombie genre to its extreme. Most were modeled after or ripped off George Romero's classic Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. In the hands of directors like Lucio Fulci, the Zombie menace was taken to its full effect; that was until someone thought up the idea of making these films funny.

One of the few genres not to owe anything to Hollywood. Cannibal films were the rage in Italy during the late 70's and early 80's, and all pretty much had the same plot and same conclusion. All you needed was a jungle setting, plenty of natives, a few silly explorers and enough guts and gore to make a billy goat puke. Most infamous of these films would be Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust and Umberto Lenzi's equally vile Cannibal Ferox. There would be a few non-jungle related cannibal movies, but none of them lived up to the glory or nasty reputation of their Italian cousins.

Some films scare, some make you laugh. These films are just mean. They showcase humanity at its worse and go out of the way to make the human species look bad. These are the films that Baptist protest and college students flock to only to find themselves puking afterward.

Leave it to John Waters, Peter Jackson, and Andy Warhol to push the boundaries of bad taste and produce films that just make you want to vomit. Then again if the audience weren't there then they wouldn't make them, would they?

Call them art house, call them cultish but some films are just plain weird! Whether they are directed by David Lynch or David Cronenberg these films, go out of the way to weird you out.

These are the French films that showcase extreme violence and terror in much the same way as the exploitation films of the late seventies.

In the collection of disturbing films, you will find many genres, all of which tell genuinely powerful messages. However, there are those movies that are just plain evil and have little to no artistic value and exist solely to make you want to vomit. The exception would be Pier Paolo Passolini's Salo, The 120 Days of Sodom, which exists as an artistic and cinematic treasure by the late Passolini, yet this film is still universally vilified as the most disturbing and utterly vile film ever made.
