  • This is about the Last Blockbuster, not so much Blockbuster itself

I really enjoyed this. I understand the frustration of some viewers. But its not meant to be a business documentary. This is a social documentary, as implied in the title. Its about the Last Blockbuster and the people behind it. I found the celebrity interviews a tad tiresome but it was great to dive into nostalgic waters with others. I found the most interesting interviews to be those of the local man.

I removed 2 stars on account of not discussing the gaming world, which was a very big part of the nostalgia. My dream was to work at a video store, and although I always applied, I was never hired and this left me bitter. This film took me back, fondly, and bitterly. You can tell this was made with love and real affection and an understanding of the video stores that made us.

  • While I can empathize...

While I can empathize with the producers, to me it came across as angry and an outright attack on men. It does very much bother me that women are depicted as sex objects, especially underage ones in the JRPGs that I love. The numbers are fudged IMO. I have been very active in the gaming community for almost 40 years, and I am always on the lookout for female gamers. Sadly, I have rarely found this demographic. There is a massive amount of different genres to attract anyone. So this narrative seems very unresearched and self serving. Not objective, just angry.

  • Well Crafted

The subject matter may be silly, but its wrapped in a well constructed documentary that holds your interest. The suspense and drama is alluring. If the trailer appeals to you, then it only gets better upon watching. The genre is "teen show/documentary", as described by Netflix, and it delivers to that demographic pretty well. I'm not into teen shows, but I can appreciate how it emulates popular crime docs of recent years. It not only recalls the crime, but takes you on a journey of investigation. A mastery of the genre.
