I'm sorry, this will be brief as I really can't even justify wasting anymore of my time on account of this film. This has to be up there as one of the most boring movies I've ever had the misfortune of watching - and I've watched many. Every single character feels out of place, and there isn't a single interesting thing about any of them. Especially Jeff Bridge's character, mundane doesn't even begin to describe him.
It includes story elements that genuinely feel like someone threw a dart at a board full of half-baked ideas. And to top it all off, probably the dullest climax to ever come to a boil. Seriously, I'd leave this one alone \/

I'm not entirely sure where these great reviews are coming from. They must be from people desperately trying to seem intelligent or diehard Lumet fanboys. This is one of the weirdest films I've ever had the displeasure of seeing. 99% shouting, 1% substance. Barely anything of interest happens throughout the entire movie. The ending comes so close to redeeming the rest of this slogfest, but then doesn't.
There are many attempts at depicting madness in certain scenes, but these scenes just end up coming off as odd, out of place, and downright confusing. The script and direction are questionable at best. I dare you to try and understand what the dialogue is trying to say more than half the time.
I will commend the acting - Sean Connery and Ian Bannen are great as always. The cinematography is also very nice. But that's about it. Do not recommend.

I would confidently say that more than half of these short tales aren't worth watching at all. The ones that did stand out ended up being pretty entertaining, but the majority of them really lacked anything thought-provoking whatsoever, and the ones that were bad were absolutely terrible.
There's surprisingly bad acting from otherwise talented actors. A lot of talent seemed to be wasted on this messy collection. I don't worship Guillermo Del Toro like most, but the guy usually brings some darn good work to the screen. This was disappointing.
Also, the rotten cherry on top of the mundane sundae, is having to sit there and watch Del Toro introduce every episode like Hitchcock... Unfortunately he's not nearly as interesting, and has zero scren presence.
