It has an interesting storyline but there were so many distractions. And these distractions were major storylines that would have taken multiple seasons to develop properly. Alas, none of these ideas were properly developed or finalized.

They simply wander around, throw in some interesting idea from the sci-fi community, and solve it within an episode or two.

There were too many plot tools (blink drive, time-travel, etc.) used such that it is transparent to the viewers.

I wish they focused on few of those ideas and developed properly. That way they could have had few more seasons.

As it was then, an amateurish work and ended prematurely.

The scenario, scenes, camera, acting, they all suck. There is not one thing in this film that one could say was somewhat OK.

It seems that some random guys felt like making a film and gone for it. It is terrible but not in a way that it is also amusing, simply really bad.

The only contribution of this film to our world is that it makes one realize that even bad films still require a minimum level of competence to make them watchable. This is not watchable at all.

The makers of this film are just so ignorant of themselves that they felt like this was OK to release this. It is simply pathetic.

I watched it again recently, after 40 years. Most of the stories are lame and predictable, quite some of them plain goofy, and terrible acting.

BTW, Shatner as Kirk was a terrible choice. I would not believe anything Shatner says as Kirk as he almost always comes across a jerk even though he puts his life on the line in almost every episode, it is not believable.

But, it does set the stage for many great follow up stories. So, 6 stars for it.

I feel that it could have been a lot better if they let the story of Pike and his number one develop. Alas! I think that pilot episode is the best of TOS, and one of the best episodes of entire trek universe.
