Haters will say it didn't "do enough" or "Supernatural is going into the gutter". This isn't true at all, the season 14 mid-season finale was a very solid episode.
It set up a lot for the big bad and many subplots going forward in season 14.
We got to see an appearance of a fan favorite character, along with getting a tad more clarity what this season may shape up to be like.
By the episodes conclusion, the show has more questions than answers going forward, which is really fun to speculate about until the mid-season premiere and the rest of season 14 happens.
I do have high hopes for the rest of this season, we will just have to wait and see how everything plays out!
