Wasn't sure what to expect when I jumped into this movie, but, turns out, I was really glad I took the leap! A funny, scary, gross (that poop scene??) nostalgic 80's-style throwback that I enjoyed from start to finish. Nicely shot. Very good production value for an indie film. And something else that surprised me? Really solid acting from the entire cast! It's like a mixture of Porky's, There's Something About Mary and Friday the 13th. A laugh-out-loud little escape. Recommended!
Was pleasantly surprised by this project. As a longtime Whovian, I was a bit skeptical at first. But, happily, there was no need to be. This Time travel-bases fan series certainly captures a similar essence of my beloved Dr. Who, while also still managing to deliver characters, story lines and locations that are fun, fresh, exciting and memorable. Sharp script writing (there are several laugh-out-loud moments!) and keen direction (both accredited to series creator Daryn Murphy), in addition to a very strong ensemble clearly take the production value to the next level for any fan of smart sci-fi. Highly recommended. And I look forward to future episodes!
I admit — it was my curiosity of seeing veteran actors Lance Henriksen ("Aliens) and C. Thomas Howell ("The Outsiders") on screen again that initially made me pick up a copy of "Spirit Riders." But what I actually found was a great little family movie that I enjoyed throughout.
"Spirit Riders" is an uplifting story of second chances that takes place at a horse therapy ranch. When troubled teen Kacie (very well played by actress Allie DeBerry from the Disney Channel series, "A.N.T. Farm") is ordered by the court to work at the Spirit Riders ranch, she tries to get her life back on track while helping a stubborn, retired racehorse re-acclimate to life off track.
The story is simple enough to appeal to kids, yet offers a fresh take on the typical bad-teen-gone-good movie that will hold parents' attentions, too. The cast of young talent did a great job and really held their own against the pros!
A great family-friendly DVD. Definitely worth checking out.
