Jason Clark brought so much dimension to his character that at times I actually felt empathy for this rotten person. The accolades don't stop there, all the acting is spectacular, the screen adaptation and overall narative was very well done even if it omitted some of the more intriguing parts of the story, the financial malfeasance was not fully covered, the Oxycontin angle was barely covered. But it still felt complete. I have so much empathy for Buster's character and I thank the show for that because I haven't really thought about how he is the true victim in all of this. My heart broke for him. I hope he is blessed in his life and finds happiness. Altogether the production value, dialogue, screen, direction, portrayals and overall vibe of the show make it an absolute masterpiece for me. Highly recommended.
We are all the same, we are all beautiful and ugly and happy and hurting. It's a crazy emotional show and gave me feelings that I don't think I've ever had before and probably never will again. I snort laughed and ugly cried within minutes of each other. The feeling is of something like distilled bittersweetness. The characters are AMAZING. The restraint in the acting is perfect. The score drives it home. Production values are high. The choreographies add depth. The screenplay is brilliant. Everything feels like you're peeping through a keyhole at something real. Believe the hype. It's a masterpiece. Reminds me a bit of Magnolia. But it's distinctly a Montreal gem and that really seals the deal for me. Magic. 10/10.
The most redeeming thing in the movie are the alien worm/dog thingies. I love them. I want one so bad. I want to know them more, what their culture is like, how they interact. The rest is awful. All other characters are awful and overdrawn into caricatures. When there was some violence directed at the cute worm/dog thingies, I'd had enough. No fun at all! Just suffering and angst and people using other people and weakness and corruption and spinelessness. Camera work reminiscent of Brazil. Wacky tacky bad trip. It was too weird for me and I'm a weirdo. Or maybe it was just poor writing. I'm shocked that I was so bored given the trailer. If the worm/dogs were more prominent or not treated with cruelty, I might have given it a six. Oh well. 10/10 for the cute aliens, nice posters and cool premise. 2.5/10 for the human storyline, poor plot development; also the bizarre production themes and strange direction which led to overcooked acting and abnormal, awkward performances.
