I'm British and love British humour. This is really a fantastic programme and had me and my wife laughing out loud. It also has a really interesting story and you grow to like the characters quickly. Martin Freeman plays his role so well.
I am amazed that After Life gets rave reviews yet this is somehow not. It is so much more original, funny and interesting.
The first scene can be a bit shocking for some, but stick with it. The swearing is throw away and part of the overall story. It calms down, but is a big part of the humour.

Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of Ricky Gervais. I watched The Office on the first day it was aired and fell in love with the show. Since then I have been a huge fan of Ricky Gervais, and been to see his stand up a few times live.
I was so excited for this show but it fell so flat on me. It seemed unoriginal, tired and lacking any memorable moments whatsoever.
It felt like this was a rushed series to feel a need for a lucrative Netflix series deal. Gervais, chasing a quick buck, and losing his previously perfected art.
Everything in the show is both forced and false. It is just SO obvious he wanted to try to pull on heartstrings, choose a dark subject matter and STILL get laughs.
The great comedies are able to do this naturally. Indeed, The Office and Derek have way more emotional moments for me. This is because you love it the characters and care for them. You don't care for the main character here (despite the cringeworthy flashback scenes).
This show probably plays more towards teenagers looking for a quick laugh about how outrageous some of the jokes are. It really lacks the wit and emotion of Gervais' other series.
I hope if we are to get another series, we see a massive improvement. Come on, Ricky.
