Fresh back from the cinema. My beloved wife and I had the whole auditorium to ourselves. Wish more people would have taken the chance to discover this little gem.
I suspect this movie won't appeal to a wide audience. The story was slow to unfold. It was actually several intertwined stories, all told in pieces. Each and every character was rich and well developed.
The cinematography alone was worth the price of admission. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen. Just be forewarned there were no car chases or shoot 'em ups. It was simply an intriguing and well told story.

Nicolas Cage fans will get the reference in my review's title. This movie made me want to be a better man! Honestly, it did.
Just saw it on an airplane. Laughed myself silly at some of the subtle gags hidden throughout the movie. I especially liked Knuckles tattoo.
And there was definitely something wrong with the air filtration on my flight, as I found myself tearing up at the end. Those aircraft mechanics need to put down their coffees and get busy fixing that.

This movie piqued my interest because it was filmed locally in the Portland, Oregon area, shortly before we became known as the Dumpster Fire Capital of the country.
Right off the bat, let me talk about the high point of the show: The Polar King diner in Gresham. About halfway through, this personal favorite spot is the setting for a nice scene. I have faithfully held down a seat in those same booths. Via a series of grunts and nods, I have grudgingly been accepted into the tribe of cranky old men that partake of breakfast there. And if you're lucky enough to have Kim as your server, be sure to tip her well. There aren't enough words to describe how wonderful she is. On the breakfast menu, order #16 (it doesn't exist) so she knows I sent you.
But back to the movie. I will say the cinematography was very nice, and did not have a low budget feel. That's two nice things so far, which is all I've got. The story itself was kinda slow and plodding. It's as if we were watching a primer on how NOT to raise children. Maybe this would be good to show in high school, so you can see how bad life choices have consequences down the road.
