Have you seen The Wrestler? It's like a gender opposite but same story. Both movies made me cry. Both have great lead performances, but this one got so much attention I fear it mildly increased my expectation heading in. But the press has all been about Pamela. And yes, she was fantastic. I love Brenda Song and Billy Lourde too. Tons of great things about this movie but not over all as super great as I'd been led to believe.
David got my attention. I can't say that I had much of an opinion of him previously but he was great. Disappointingly, like other reviewers, JLC surprised me with this one. And not in a good way. For whatever reason, her character came across like a bad character from a bad skit. A cheese parody. But she's sooo good usually so it was basically just distracting.
So I liked it. I cried. It was beautiful. But I still walk a way feeling like comparing it to The Wrestler. Which had the oomph this never really let out. I wanted to love it more.

When you see Antonio Sabata Jr is the star, you should already know what you're about to get. But being a true story murder junkie, I had to check it out. And yeah... pretty bad. But I liked learning more backstory. So if you're hunting for a good kinda Lifetime movie type film, just with a lot of bad language and gore, this one's for you.
Within 10mins of this starting, I was in shock at how terrible the acting was. Both Jane and Heche have always been pretty good... another 15mins in and I was scripting this review still annoyed. But I was intrigued that Fancinelli wrote it, and Patric's involvement also had me wanting to keep giving it a chance. (That and I had nothing else to do tonight.) And guess what, pretty much what I saw other reviewers post here... worth the perseverance. I actually felt relieved that when it ended, what I thought was terrible acting, was all somehow explained. All along I liked the pacing, the shooting, all in and all good directing. So stick with it. If you're annoyed at the beginning, push through. Nothing like a movie with a good ending.
