This roast is infamous for only being aired once due to the mean spirited nature of the jokes and clear discomfort of Chevy Chase. His previous roast had gone well, but this one was filled with people he didn't know, which lead to the jokes being more mean and personal. Apparently it caught him so off guard that he was sent into a depression after.
You do get some second hand embarrassment watching this but overall it's quite entertaining with some funny roasts. There are some awful segments though like Lisa Lampanelli who I had to skip through because it was so bad. While Chevy is known to have a bad reputation and some might say he deserved this, there are some "jokes" that go too far such as blatantly making fun of his drug problems in a distasteful manner. But it's worth watching as an entertaining piece of lost media and there are some hilarious parts, you can find it by searching on Reddit and Internet Archive.

I see a lot of the reviews mentioning the shaky camera, and I admit I was turned off by it at first. But while there are criticisms to be made about the camera work, don't let them deter you from watching the film if you are interested; yes it is shaky, but if you ignore it for a bit and let yourself get drawn into the film, then you won't notice it for the rest of the time. In fact, the camera ends up adding to the film; it's almost like some sort of school project, but the script and acting are so good that it results in a very unique experience. One that could only come from the early 2000s. You really feel like a fly on the wall watching these people go through their time in the ward.
Joseph Gordon Levitt kills it in one of his early movie roles. I watched this one after Mysterious Skin and Brick, and it's safe to say he's one of the best actors of the 2000s to play these types of roles (even though he was in his 20s and playing teenagers). The rest of the cast is great too. Definitely a love it or hate it type film but you'll know within the first 10-15 minutes if it's for you.
