For the purest out there, I don't care! Was on my list, had low expectations (Loved the 1968 "Oliver") & it did not offer songs, but OMG, it was brilliant. The chemistry between Fagin and Dodger was perfect. Both David Thewlis & Thomas Brodie Sangster made you forget anything else they may have done in the past and fitted into their Artful Dodger characters as if they had been them from the start. There is a great musical score playing in the background, which is so perfect for the series. The ensemble cast are wonderful & play great enhancing characters. The plot demands you find out what happens next! Very recommended.
If you are a purist when it comes to the Fiction of Jane Austen, save yourself and don't watch it. If you love the language of Austen, the costumes of the era, feel of an Austen story with a mild modern twist, then this is for you. I loved it (I am also a fan of Lost in Austen). It still has all the twists and turns of an Austen story and mainly follows the plot line of Persuasion. The cast were perfect, they made the characters as lovable and hateful as in the book, with with a comic twist. Just in case you are worried the unrequited love and inability to be direct is there. Very Recommended.
