Let's face it, the original is always better: whether it is a book turned into a movie or a theater musical turned into a movie, the movie is always worse. That is why I make it a point to watch the movie first. It doesn't ruin the book or musical for me when I see the movie first. But what it does is make me appreciate the film. And in this case, not only did I appreciate the film, I just loved it. I still was so moved that I cried and I felt Evan's pain. I felt all of these things without having to see it on stage and having the benefit of connecting with the characters on stage on a more personal and deeper level. Theater goers know what I mean. So if you haven't seen the musical, go watch this movie. You will love it. For those that watched the musical first then the movie, try not to compare the two because as a stand alone film, this movie was excellent! Ben Platt IS Evan Hansen. I'm glad he played him, he is excellent!!! I'm buying the movie when it comes out on DVD. This is probably going to be my favorite movie for the year!
Beautiful costumes, setting and story. No, I haven't read the book. The review is about the show. If you enjoy time period pieces with a twist and romance, you'll love this show. Just watch it!!
