It scares me to think that someone from another country could believe that these stories reflect real life in the US. It's obviously fiction to draw viewers.

I do like this series for the most part but could do without the nudity and some of the violence.

I agree 100% about the fleeing guy hitting his head on a rock. All that barren land, and he just happens to hit his head on the ONLY rock, which kills him.

I DON'T believe the ratings are misleading. There's no reason for people to lie about shows they like or dislike. This one takes a bit of getting used to, but don't take it so seriously and you'll end up liking it and caring about the characters.

And I COMPLETELY agree about Mrs. Dutton being the worst mother ever. This episode made me understand Beth more, even though she's not my favorite character. God knows how any woman would have turned out after her mother messed her up so bad.

First, I want to emphasize that i love Kate. She's a fantastic actress who really shows her struggles throughout her life. There are parts of her that I could do without, particularly the way she treated her mother during childhood. I like that they became so close later in life. Kate's life journey is one of the more interesting stories throughout this show.

That being said, I absolutely adore Toby and it kills me they broke up this fantastic couple. Just because Toby grew and became happy was no reason for them to split. I was especially upset that Kate so selfishly divorced him, when she had accused Toby of being selfish when he wanted to stay in a job that made him truly happy. Toby and Kate had true chemistry together.

She has ZERO chemistry with Philip, and he just makes no sense whatsoever. He's a complete prick to her, and she never should have fallen for him, especially given her past abusive relationship.

The only thing I like about them is Kate's gorgeous wedding dress. Throughout the show, I always liked that she wore very colorful dresses instead of trying to hide her size.

Like all other fans of this show, I was really looking forward to this season. The first 4 were so good and so unique. This one is really off to a terrible start. The storylines are meandering all over the place and have NO POINT WHATSOEVER. I keep waiting for SOME recognition of this formally-great show, but so far, it's just horrible.

And, in response to someone who said these negative reviewers weren't paying attention, that couldn't be more wrong. I was a HUGE fan and truly tried to like this season, but from the first episode, it just stinks.

I also almost shut the episode off less than halfway through, but I decided to keep watching out of loyalty for these actors that i love. I regret that now.
