  • Over the top

Pretty standard Jason Statham film, but this one turns the ridiculousness up to 11. By the end of the film the big bad guys that have been brought in to finish our hero off look like Emo Philips and Uncle Fester. You can't help but smile when they appear, and yes you are laughing at them not with them.

I don't think anyone expects realism with a JS film, but there are even limits as to what his audience can accept and I feel the filmmakers crossed that line. Crossed way over it.

Add in an absurdly complicated plot where you need a Venn diagram just to keep track of everyone and who is revenging who and why, and you have this mess.

I was waiting for the Hispanic gang to make another appearance, but no, they weren't cartoonish enough for this film.

The fight sequences were good and entertaining, but I wasn't buying him with a rifle in close quarters against others with machine guns. They spray the whole room and he steps out from being a bullet proof pillar to plunk a couple of rounds into them.

Anyway, don't have high expectations for this one.

  • Okay, but I expected more

I haven't read the book, but knew of it and that it was very popular, so I was expecting a more interesting mystery, but, to be honest, I've seen television episodes of mysteries shows that were more interesting and intriguing. The characters were pretty good and the film move well enough, although a bit rushed at the ending, but again it wasn't that interesting. Also, the second murder, when we learn about how it was done at the end, I kept thinking, but how? Why didn't the person getting murdered react in someway? It just didn't make any sense, so because it was unbelievable it was pretty disappointing. And this would be the books fault, not necessarily the movies fault as I assume it was the same way of killing someone.

Overall an enjoyable film that is comparable to a good episode of Law & Order or Elementary, but with plot holes. Not really a stand out movie mystery.

  • Awful

God, this is terrible. What passes for humor in some people's eyes is unbelievable. I barely got through 20 minutes of this before I had to turn it off. I'm not sure how saying f** to your kid in normal conversations is funny. Also VD is played as a joke, them doing coke is a a joke, them driving drunk is a joke, then crashing into a car while driving drunk is a joke, corrupt police are a joke, etc. What they are trying to pass off as humor is just plain stupid and often cruel (hey, tell your kid to 'get the f... out of here' that will be funny).

    Anyway, don't waste your time.
