Good grief this film is bad. Hopkins and Pacino are such great actors that its like they're acting in a different movie than everyone else.

Duhamel isn't bad in this one either, to be fair, but his character is a complete moron without a shred of common sense. He also seems to suffer from an overabundance of confidence, particularly relative to his utter lack of shrewdness or competence (Dunning-Kruger anyone?).

The woman who plays his wife turns in as wooden a performance as humanly possible. She seems like she's been drugged in every scene. I'm not sure whether she's that bad or whether the direction in this movie was just so dismal... or both. There is literally NO chemistry between her and Duhamel, which makes their "story" completely uninteresting.

I also saw the twists coming six bazillion miles away. I ended up fast-forwarding to see whether I was right, and I was. Watching it unfold was unnecessary and would have been painful. I highly recommend you don't put yourself through s similar torture.

This movie does everything it sets out to do. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Unlike so many body horror type movies today that rely on outrageous gore (which to me is just lazy storytelling, and also nauseating), this movie has enough gore to make you cringe, but still doesn't overdo it. It mostly leans into the awful feelings of desperation and despair one would experience if they were in this situation.

The acting is great, too, from every one of the characters. And the story is nice and simple. There's just enough context to make you care a bit about the heroes and hate the villain, but it doesn't waste time on super deep character development either. I felt like it was the perfect amount of story to act as the backdrop to the basic plot.

Plus, at NO point did I roll my eyes at "yet another" horror trope. Everything felt unique, except I suppose there were a couple of scenes that felt mildly reminiscent of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (where the heroine just CANNOT ESCAPE). Still, it was definitely done in its own way.

I suppose there could have been a tiny bit more about why the killer does what he does or what his history is, but this wasn't trying to be Silence of the Lambs or even close, and I feel like they did great with an obviously lower-budget film.

The shark scenes aren't very realistic, and I personally found that a blessing, as I'm not sure I could have taken the intensity had they felt more real, lol! But that was probably where the lower budget was most evident. Again, the acting was ON PAR. I don't recognize any of the actors, but I would love to see any of them in another film.

I'll also say that the only reason I watched this film is because AMC advertised the bejesus out of it and I got so used to seeing the preview scenes that I finally said, "Okay, fine, I'll check it out." I'm glad I did! Definitely one of the most satisfying horror movies I've seen in a long time.

Starts off "meh" but I watched the entire first episode hoping it would pick up steam and get good, but it got progressively worse. The music is bad (low budget bad), the acting is overdone, the plot is just beyond absurd, and the very last scene where the lead actress plays herself with a "German accent" and a terrible wig is literally like an SNL skit. I was laughing out loud.

I'm SHOCKED to see this show's high rating. Maybe people were more starved for entertainment when this first came out. I'm not sure I could have ever stomached it, even back then. I was feeling bad for Michael Mando because how the heck did this guy go from playing Nacho in Better Call Saul to having to play a character on THIS show??? Then I see that he was actually on this show first, and I feel a bit better for him. There's nowhere to go but up from a show like this.

It's seriously like a Lifetime TV-level drama. Just ridiculous. Life it too short to plod through anymore episodes.
