This is a terrible movie. There, I said it. The only reason I gave it any stars was the acting by Denzel & Jeffrey Wright; other than that, the acting and script were lousy. I would expect more from Lee; it looks like he sleepwalked through this lousy film. There are way too many plot holes and idiotic scenes to count. Whoever wrote this script should take some classes on how to write a movie. Denzel plays a music mogul whose chauffeur's son is kidnapped by a would-be rapper who thought he was kidnapping Denzel's son. The police are inept; Washington figures out who the kidnapper is and tells the cops as they are interviewing the victim, but they aren't interested in hearing it; they want to continue to interview the victim, who doesn't know anything. So Washington and Wright go out on their own to find the kidnapper and the money. The movie continues to get even worse. This is just a terrible movie. Watch at your own risk.
The one common thread in all the Alien films, besides the monsters, is the greed and lack of empathy and conscience by the "Greedy" corporations. The corporations that rule over the Earth compete with each other to see who becomes the boss. But that's just the side story here. Our heroine is a female in a synthetic body with a human consciousness of an 11-year-old girl dying of a disease. This is the latest and greatest discovery by Prodigy corporation, owned by a wunderkid named "Boy Kavalier." He is on the verge of creating immortality. Her name is "Wendy" and she is remarkably played by Sydney Chandler, who brings a child-like vulnerability to "Wendy" but at the same time, the confidence of a basically Superhuman. She has strength and speed far beyond that of normal humans. One of the competitors of Prodigy, "Yutani," has a ship that was in space for 65 years gathering alien specimens. (Yep, our monsters and some other cool ones, never seen before) The ship crashes on Earth in Prodigy" territory and into a building owned by Prodigy. The company sends a team of private security soldiers to assess the damage and rescue any survivors. They also decide to send Wendy and 5 other new "Synths," as they are called, on the rescue mission.
The rescue mission is stalled because the only survivor of the crash is a cyborg named Morrow, who is in communication with his bosses, and his mission is to get possession of the specimens, which by now are beginning to create havoc, which makes this an excellent series. The acting is superb, the story great. So far, I am halfway through, but this is a winner for me.
