  • Chronicle: A Chronicle of a Missed Opportunity in the Found Footage Genre

As a devoted fan of found footage films, I approached 'Chronicle' with high expectations, particularly as it stands out as the only action-sci-fi entry in the genre. Surprisingly and disappointingly, it was the found footage aspect itself that proved to be the film's weak point, rather than other elements I might have anticipated to falter.

'Chronicle' actually boasts several compelling elements: strong acting performances, an engaging plot, and impressive special effects. These components, which one might expect to be challenging in a found footage format, are handled well and could have formed the backbone of a solid sci-fi thriller. However, the decision to frame the story as found footage ironically proves to be the film's Achilles' heel.

To my disappointment, the found footage aspect of 'Chronicle' lacks credibility in crucial moments. Many scenes fail to convincingly justify why they're being filmed, breaking the immersion that's vital for this genre. The integration of footage from a second camera (Casey's) further strains believability, rather than enhancing the realism as intended.

Paradoxically, the found footage approach ends up making the film feel more artificial. Instead of drawing viewers into a sense of raw authenticity, it constantly reminds us of the constructed nature of the narrative.

In the end, 'Chronicle' is a film brimming with potential, hamstrung by its commitment to a poorly executed found footage format. Had it been produced as a conventional movie, allowing its strengths in acting, plot, and visual effects to shine without the constraints of justifying camera presence, it could have been a much more effective and engaging experience.

While 'Chronicle' offers intriguing ideas and solid production values, its misguided use of the found footage genre ultimately detracts from what could have been a far more impactful film.

  • Peak Entertainment for Star Wars Fans with A Message of Hope on Top

Having seen the unbelievably disappointing projects of The Book of Bobba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, one should not expect Andor to be any less disastrous. I was so hopelessly dejected by the recent Star Wars projects that I watched Andor sven months after its release and because I had nothing better to watch. So I gave it a try without checking reviews or ratings, not realizing how much it would surprise me and how it would eventually become one of my favorite Star Wars projects. Andor came strong with a perfect group of Hollywood talents as a cast, well-written relatable characters, a plot that gave you little idea where it was taking you (although it was a prequel), dialogs full of quotes you just wanted tattooed all over you, and a beautiful depiction of the united power of common people against great forces of tyranny. And what more could one ask for from a series? This will now certainly be the very first thing I would recommend someone to watch when it comes to introducing Star Wars. Fans love Andor not only for what it delivers, but also for the message of hope it conveys for the future of the franchise. A message of hope maybe equally as evocative as the one given by Marvaa Andor.

  • A show with a promising unique format doomed to flop.

First hearing about it, I believe we were all pretty excited. The amazing Giancarlo Esposito paired with the Spanish beauty Paz Vega, in a show that introduces an entirely new way to follow a plot. Plus, it being a heist story it seemed in a way, too good to be true. Yet, the biggest heist they committed was stealing the viewers' precious time. I decided to watch the episodes chronologically and for a moment doubted that decision. Halfway through, I started questioning my choice of order and thought maybe the random order is what would have made it all at least a bit interesting to watch. Perhaps they did not spend much time on story and character development, but they did come up with an original format that I have now ruined. It became very clear to me after watching the last episode (Pink) that they even failed in that department. In retrospect, I can only imagine how horrible and utterly confusing it would have been had I watched Pink first. As for what the creators specifically did to turn this into a show that can be seen in any order, the only thing that came to mind was leaving out the recap episodes. And isn't that just ingenious?
