Moving House!

There hasn't been a lot of sewing happening as last week
we've been busy moving Mum into her new home.
Monday we started taking all the boxes to the unit.

Mum's is the lower unit. For the first time ever she has a carport!
Friday was furniture moving day when
Austin had a RDO and could help Noel.
We got her bedroom all set up.
That's the only room totally done.
We're slowly putting everything else away.
Yesterday we locked up the family home
for the last time in almost 48 years!

Once lock down is over, Mum and I are going
to have lots of fun shopping for new furniture and items for the unit.

It's very exciting for Mum but also a bit sad leaving
all the neighbours behind. Some of them have
been there longer than us. But Mum is only 3 minutes away
so they'll all be able to visit each other.

A lovely young couple bought the house and
are going to start making it their family home.

OPAM For May And What's Been Happening!

Only two finishes for this month as there's been a lot going on.
A Tilda candle mat.

Tilda bunny.
.
Thanks to Kris for keeping us inspired.

So, what has been keeping me busy at MacDonald's Patch?
After 47 years in our house, Mum decided it was time
to sell up and down size. She wanted to stay in the area
and we found this lovely unit just 3 minutes away.
This, of course, meant we have to sell her house.
We've been very busy getting it ready to put on the market.
There is so much "stuff" after 47 years and we've only just started.
The real clean out will be once the house is sold.
We were lucky to get two open houses in before the lockdown.
Noel and I celebrated our 26th Anniversary
and had a couple of days in Ballarat. We had two honeymoons
when we got married. First we went to the Cook Islands and
then to Ballarat. We stayed at Sovereign Hill then and we did again..
We stayed in the same room that we did on our honeymoon.
It was the front room on the left.
We walked around some of Lake Wendouree.
For dinner we went to The Boat Shed on the lake.
It was lovely and we sat overlooking the water.
We were given a complimentary glass of champagne when we arrived
as it was our anniversay, which was a lovely surprise.
The meal was delicious. We can highly recommend this place.

Went to the Conservatory in the Botanical Gardens.
On the way home, we stopped in Ballan so I could visit
my favourite shop, Chrissie's Timeless Treasures.
Chrissie has so many gorgeous things inside.
Lots of vintage things, buttons, laces, crockery and new things too.
You might remember that back in February,
Austin and Paris bought a house.
They got the keys last week and have started moving in!
On the sewing front, I've been sorting threads for
my Heart Strings stitcheries. Not exactly sure if I'm
going to do the Heart Strings quilt or not but I have matched the
threads to go with my bundle of Tilda Old Rose.
I've also pulled out my Lillian Elizabeth's Kitchen
blocks to calculate what borders I need to cut.
I think I'm all set to start cutting now.
Phew, what a long post! Hope I've haven't bored you.

When is an op shop find, not an op shop find?

When you clean out your parents shed which hasn't been touched in years!
This dirty, moth-eaten, horrible box was way down the back.
But look what was inside.A glass dessert set. This was a wedding present to my parents over
48 years ago! I don't think it was ever used.
The spoons were very tarnished. I've only tried cleaning them once
so far using the tin foil/bi carb soda boiling method.
They didn't come up too bad for a first go.Here's the set all nice and clean.No-one can ever remember seeing this cookie jar so who
knows where it came from!A cute little chicken pot holder, still with it's tag.A sweet little vase.Do you remember Holly Hobby? Here's my money box. I just loved Holly Hobby when I was younger. This mug wasn't in the shed but I thought I'd show you it anyway. It's been in my cup drawer forever!
It would now be over 30 years old.And last but not least, this very cute(?) duck toothpick holder. Just the thing for those pre-dinner cheese and kabana nibblies!
