First Harvest From The Garden!

We Noel planted some tomatoes and zucchini and we have had our first little harvest. One tomato and two zucchini! There are a lot more on the plants waiting for their turn.
He also planted some lovely herbs and potatoes.
It's lovely being able to pick your own home grown vegies. The boys had lots of fun digging for potatoes
last time we planted them.

Lavender!

Saturday afternoon Noel and I popped around to a friend's place so I could cut some of her lavender.
After we'd cut this lot, you couldn't even tell we had
taken any the bush was so full!
Tied up in bundles. I'll be able to use the lavender
for some nice homemade smelly things!
Hanging in on side of Mitchell's wardrobe to dry. One thing having boys, they don't need lots of wardrobe space. This side also stores all the Christmas things.
When Noel was watering the garden the other evening, he saw this and thought it was a rock. It was actually a baby Tawny Frog Mouth sitting in the garden. He was gone the next morning, hopefully collected by it's mother.

One potato, two potato, three potato, four!

Today Austin, Nelson and I harvested our first potato crop.I think I only planted about 8 seed potatoes and this is what we dug up. They weighed about 17.5kg. I don't know if this is a good amount but we were very pleased with it. Everytime we thought we had finished we'd find more potatoes!Even Ginger came in to help. Next job is to pick the silverbeet. Still waiting on the tomatoes to turn red!

Dee Dee Dolphin, the Cricket and Zucchinis!

With Noel and Mitchell at the cricket and Austin and Nelson having a quiet day, I was able to get some sewing done. I made Dee Dee Dolphin by Melly and Me. The green fabric is some of the Where the Wind Blows range by Melly Hurlston that I won on her blog.
Mitchell did his two days at the MCG selling cricket programs. Here he is looking very pleased with himself. Pity about the cricket score!
I went out to the vegie patch yesterday and found this huge zucchini. I must have missed it two days earlier and it's now huge. It weighed over 1kg! That's a 50 cent piece to show you the size. The middle zucchini weighed about 500g.

I just love the Christmas holidays. It means I can get some sewing done. So I'm heading back to the machine now to do some more creating!

Santa, Some More Hangers and Some Apples

I realised I hadn't put this Santa out. I went looking and found him hiding in a fairy light box! I made him a few years ago and he's made of wood.
I've finished the next lot of hangers (Val's tutorial). Four are for presents. The hangers come in packs of six, so I thought I might as well make them all up. I've now got two spares! Might just keep them for myself.
We planted this Ballerina apple tree quite a few years ago. Lo and behold, we finally have some apples coming!

Vegie Garden

Today Nelson and I got stuck into the vegie garden.
It's really been the weed garden for quite a while!
We planted snow peas, cos lettuce, tomatoes and zucchini.
We've also put in some potatoes. It will be interesting to see how they go. Hopefully, all that good chicken manure helps everything grow. Just got to make sure the 'girls' don't get into the patch!
Still haven't decided what else we'll put in. Nelson wanted to plant carrots but I think it's the wrong time for them. Might try some rhubarb. I don't eat it but Noel loves it! We'll have another trip to a different nursery and see what we come up with.

Blue Tongue

Late last year, we had a large storm and our chicken house collapsed. Needless to say, the chickens now have a new house.

On Tuesday, Noel, Austin and Nelson were clearing up all the wood, tin and chicken wire from the old house and they came across this blue tongue lizard. We have seen him around before. He's our silent pet!
If you're wondering what's in Noel's ears, it's cotton wool as he was using
the electric saw to cut up the wood!
