about

The story continues, and Mr. Moon is on a rampage! Filming this was very cool, because we wanted to include some cool shots that look haunting. I always wanted to make spooky music videos and well... Here we are.

The song also has a weird story, because it was written as my last song, before I started touring with "The Band". So it's almost 10 years old. I remember that I wrote it using an acoustic guitar tuned to DADGAD. I even recorded some acoustic guitars with that tuning as an homage to that. The electric guitar is standard tuning. I wanted to make a "Silent Hill-esque" vibe and that's when the mandolins came and stuff like that. The solo is also written in a funny way, because it's like young me vs nowadays (old) me. The first half of the solo is almost untouched from what I wrote back in 2015, and the second half is a recent addition.

There is also a funny story with recording this solo. I was fighting for about 2 hours with one part of this solo. It was a technical part that transitions from the first loop, to the melody. I finally nailed it and went to Mrokat "I finished the song, let's listen to it!". As we were listening I saw that her excited face started getting a bit... less excited. I asked, "What's up? Did I mess something up?". She said "Well... I know that you probably worked on this part for a very long time... But for me it breaks the flow of the song. Sounds like some guitar wankery.". Haha, yeah she was talking about THAT part. After a little while I figured out that she is right, and it really does not fit the solo. That's when I clicked my favorite button on the keyboard "Delete" and wrote a better transition - and recorded it in 15 minutes... Yeah, usually the simple answers are much better. So, that's it! Enjoy "Premonition"!
