lyrics
We climbed for years and years only to stumble in an instant
Survived for years and years only to crumble in an instant
I lived inside a dream, the fading twilight of a youth lost
Cashed out / bled dry / gutted
Mined for nostalgia
And I woke up as an object
Re-invented as a product
Fetishising my despair
Selling memories to old friends
Clocking overtime on weekends
Cursing the stillness of the air
The oceans rose
The mountains fell
I stayed hidden
like a stranger to myself
…
My debts are measured in the moments I waste
While the clock keeps ticking away
I try to qualify each compromise as the years grow shorter and my thoughts turn colder
"The future beckons from beyond the sea"
It's always something
It's always something
Maybe I have lived too long
The curtain fell, the spark is gone
And though I lack a self to kill
The velvet dark eludes me still
So I wait
You led me through the deathless night
Like a flower bending towards the light
Without pity (no pity) or fear (no fear)
despite my worry that the end is here
In your eyes I found a hint of resolve
The future beats within the people we love
So breathe in and let the body fall
Breathe in and let the body fall
You say "it's too late, we're all of us sinners"
Well, I point to the river
I point to the river
Breathe in and let the body fall
Breathe in and let the body fall
Keep dreaming
Keep dreaming
(It's always something)
What can be said about Respire? They truly earn the "post-everything" label. They dare to move forward when so many are keen to wallow in nostalgia. MASSA NERA

This is a special album, it's my favourite of all the thousands of albums I've listened to. It mixes skramz (screamo), post-metal and to a lesser degree blackgaze - and it's perfect to my ears. I don't relate to bereavement, which is what the album is about, but it has some well-said lyrics: "Is it right to determine a life's worth through productivity? All shall recieve, according to need." - from "Critique Programme"
An obvious 10/10 for me. Artificial, Soulless, Ashen
