Heyo, nice seeing you again!

I don’t have a gigantic update to share with you this time. No massive website overhaul or major additions to the site.

Ok, well, aside from one pretty silly project I put together that’s a mockery of all the “AI” chatbot garbage out there: DergAI. You should give it a spin!

But really, this update is about a major project I launched back in January. Let me introduce you to Melvian World!

Hewwo!

It’s certainly been a while, hasn’t it? Boy do I have a lot to talk about!

New site update, new 3D me, my thoughts on my brief participation in ArtFight and my reflection on how this year’s been for me. Oh also I somehow acquired a webring?

Anyway, first things first:

If you’ve been following this site for a while, chances are you probably noticed it looks a little different now (assuming that you’re reading this update from my site and not via RSS). That’s because it is!

Heyo!

I think it’s time to hibernate again. Before I do, I’ve made a couple tiny updates to my site:

Melvian Serif has continued receiving various adjustments and improvements since it first began use last month.
The Safonts webring has been fixed. Actually there’s been some interesting things going on with that webring, stay tuned for news on that after the hibernation.
With this site now being my de facto Internet residence for almost a year, melvian.xyz is officially being retired. All URLs from that site now lead to a landing page telling users to go to this site.

I also have one very important announcement to make.

Hewwo!

I’d like to talk a bit about an update regarding my overall artistic journey and vision for this Internet presence, after some suprising discoveries arising from some of my latest projects.

But first, some small site-related updates.

First, Melvian Mono is now available for early access! More information here.

Second, I have a wiki now. You can check it out here (it’s also on the sidebar). It doesn’t have very much on it at the moment, but it will primarily serve as a place to dump some of my less polished thoughts and knowledge. Some of which may make its way over to the main site in a more polished and accessible form.

At long last, the overhaul is complete!

Heyo!

After far too many months, the new melvian.net site is finally ready!

This version of the site has been up for a while and I’ve had my social media profiles reference it for a while. However, it’s been largely unfinished, so I’ve kept my previous site around and didn’t make any grand announcements about this one.

My previous site used Jekyll. Getting tired of Jekyll and SSGs (static site generators) in general, and wanting something that could be somewhat edited graphically and catered to my unique needs, I went through three custom CMS (content management system) setups, each of which were rather brittle and were taking significantly more time than I was saving. So I ultimately went to another SSG, Hugo, and reconstructed my site very quickly. It’s not ideal but it does the job, and it’s much better for me than Jekyll.

I’m going into hibernation until 2025.

Got a few things for you today.

Small updates

First, a couple updates have been made to the website. Mainly, I’ve added two recent animations:

I’ve also done a little bit of tidying to prepare my website a little bit for a longer term project. Nothing super crazy.

I’m going into hibernation

Starting July 21, 2024, I will be in hibernation until January 1, 2025. This means that during that time, I will be completely off the Fediverse and all my other socials, and I won’t be checking my email.

New project: Designspace Dragon!

Heyo!

I’ve got quite a few new things here for this latest update. Let’s have a look!

Designspace Dragon

I whipped this up after seeing color variable fonts, and I couldn’t help but think of the idea of a little dragon where you could tweak the leg height, body width, fatness, wing size, etc. So I made it! Rather quickly though (like in two days), and there’s plenty of issues, but hopefully you enjoy it!

Heyo! Welcome to my website!

There are way too many good reasons to have your own website, but for me it’s a giant canvas, an empty room, that I can put whatever I want in there for all to see! And things you’ll be seeing on here include:

All of my animations, each with detailed process notes
Long-form writings on animation, technology, theory and anything that I think people should know
Fonts that I make
Character designs and information
Programming projects and other kinds of projects that don’t fit in any other category
And potentially even more!

The way that this website works structurally is going to be a little bit weird compared to most small websites. This is not a blog in the traditional sense that things are chronological, very frequently added to, edited very little, and can be easily subscribed to. I have tried this format many times and it never worked for me.
