Troubleshoot RCS chat

If you're having trouble receiving messages, switching devices, or your device was lost/stolen, you may need to temporarily deactivate RCS chat.

Important: Deactivating RCS chat will suspend RCS features. You will be removed from all RCS group chats if RCS is not turned back on within 30 days.

Trouble receiving messages?

If messages aren't coming through or RCS won't sync, try resetting RCS chat in Messages settings.

1. Open Google Messages
2. Tap on your avatar> Settings > RCS chats
3. Turn off RCS chat (You may need to do this on your previous device)
4. Turn RCS chat back on

Don't have your previous device?

If you're switching devices without your old one or your device was lost or stolen, you'll need to verify your number with Google to remotely deactivate RCS chat. You will be removed from all RCS group chats if RCS is not turned back on within 30 days.
