Your comment on my bot flag request for WP:mg...
[edit]...brought the shame on me :) I should have checked this before, even if there was no community answer on WP:mg to the bot flag requests.
Anyway, sorry for the mess!

Temporary administrator access
[edit]Hello Multichill. Per your request I've granted a one month temporary adminship limited to the use for CentralNotice stuff only. If after the expiry time of your temporary adminship you still need the tools, feel free to open a new request. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 08:42, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- A month until 26 Augustus 2011? That's of no use at all! Did you read Meta:Requests for adminship/Multichill (temp)? Especially this edit? Multichill 11:37, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

WIki Loves Monuments CentralNotice Campaign
[edit]Hey Multichill,
I saw your note on The Central Notice calendar that you planned on running banners for all of September both to loggedin and logged out users. I have to say I think that is bit overkill and should be rethought. I noticed that Beria activated the campaign so I'll add a copy of this note there as well.
I can understand wanting to use central notice to reach out and I could even understand a lower % for logged in users all month (though I still think that would be a bit over what's necessary) but I think doing it for logged out users for a month (no matter the percentage) is too much. Perhaps a week at a low percentage for both (10-20%)? and then turn off logged out users leaving it on for logged in? James (T C) 04:51, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hi James,
- Thanks for your kind remarks. As you probably know, Wiki Loves Monuments is a European contest to get more images of monumental buildings, which is aiming to get more people involved in the Wikimedia projects - first of all by uploading images and releasing in general under a free license. If we would limit ourselves to only logged in users, we would take away this strong outreach opportunity, which would definitely be a pity. If there is something we need these days in Wikimedia, it is more participation - and this contest is a great new way to attempt to realize that. It is not just about getting a lot of free images (which imho would be reason enough). We will however limit the CentralNotice reach to the participating countries - even though people from other countries who have visited participating countries, could also participate in the contests. Effeietsanders 18:45, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Hei! I see eu banner and nl banner differ by a link. Link could be a variable in one banner, like here. So could use specific links for other languages too where necessary without creating new banners. 90.190.114.172 17:44, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm afraid you're mixing up languages and countries. Some examples:
- Dutch is spoken in both the Netherlands and Belgium
- French is spoken in France, Belgium and Switzerland
- German is spoken in Germany, Austria, Switzerland
- So http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:NoticeTemplate/view&template=wlm_2011_nl is the banner for the Netherlands. The only difference with the other countries is the link. The translations are all shared among the different country banners. Multichill 20:11, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Flickrripper.py
[edit]I get an error for line 41 :(
Traceback (most recent call last): File "flickrripper.py", line 41, in <module> from PIL import Image, ImageTk # see: http://www.pythonware.com/products/pil/ ImportError: No module named PIL
How can I fix this? I have installed the two modules documentation talks about: Commons:Commons:Tools/Flickrripper
-- とある白い猫 chi? 23:51, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- It's a small undocumented bug. Install the PIL manually (not by easy_install). If you have Python 2.7 you need the Python Imaging Library 1.1.7 for Python 2.7 (Windows only). Kobac 05:39, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Hi there,
I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!
Here’s how to participate:
- Learn more about this consultation
- Vote on and submit new campaign topics in the AllOurIdeas Survey
- Discuss campaign topics and ask questions on the IdeaLab talk page
Take care,
I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:34, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Future IdeaLab Campaigns results
[edit]Last December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.

Removal of the global bot right
[edit]Dear Multichill,
First of all and in behalf of MarcoAurelio, apologies for the broken and unfriendly message. We had over 60 global bots, mostly inactive within the global bot scope. The scope of global bots is restricted, and because of the introduction of Wikidata, significantly reduced. As stated on Bot_policy#Global_bots, a global bot may only "maintain interlanguage links or fix double-redirects". Inactivity is defined as "not performing any edits on any project where global bot flag is allowed for a whole year".
Checking the crossactivity of your bot, it has no activity in the last year (going back to at least 2012) on any project where it hasn't got a local bot flag , except for fr.wikipedia where it had last edited 2015-06-11 08:44. fr.wikipedia has however never opted-in to global bots, as can be checked in the wikiset. Should you still wish to reactivate your global bot for the tasks described above, we will be happy to reassign the flag after a request on SRB. Savhñ 11:38, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Savh: don't hop talk pages. The discussion is at User_talk:MarcoAurelio#Global_bot_flag_removal. Multichill (talk) 12:23, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- That's also a very kind message. "Don't hop talk pages". I'll make sure to stop hopping around for someone who wants to be special. Savhñ 15:02, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
Inspire Campaign on content curation & review
[edit]I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.
All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.
Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,
I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:46, 31 May 2016 (UTC) (Opt-out instructions)
Insults
[edit]Re phabricator:T54564#3440201, I'm not sure why you felt insulted: "arrogant" was referred to an action, not to a person. Also, throwing a link like that in a discussion feels intimidating. If you think a user missed some policy or best practice, the best course of action is to educate them directly (e.g. in their talk page or private email address), so that the main discussion has less noise and is not influenced by arguments about people. --Nemo 11:24, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

giving autopatrol rights
[edit]Hi ho. With the abuse of User pages by LTAs, and them being global user pages, we shoved an abuse filter in place to restrict that root page edit in the user: namespace—autopatrol right to edit another's user page. So if you think people need to edit, then we have been just granting the rights. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:36, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- ugh, you don't have rights, see that it has been some temps. Meh! Just ping me if you think that someone should have rights. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:38, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Billinghurst: I don't really understand what you're trying to say. What rights and temps are you referring to? Does this have to do with this edit? Multichill (talk) 11:25, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Yep. I wrongly presumed that MP tried to edit his bot page and failed, due to the AF; I see it often for bot operators. I thought that you had stepped up and updated. All guessed without my not having got to that AF log today. ALL WRONG. Apologies for confusing things with my 20/20 blindsight. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:30, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Notice of removal of global bot status from BotMultichill
[edit]Hello Multichill. You are being contacted as owner of BotMultichill flagged with global bot status. This is to inform you that pursuant §1.1.4 of the global bot policy as amended by this RFC the named bot account is inactive in the terms laid out by the global bot policy. As such, global bot status from this account have been removed. This message is being left on Meta-Wiki and on your homewiki. We thank you for your work as global bot operator. If you have any questions or concerns, you can raise them at the Stewards' Noticeboard on Meta-Wiki. Best regards. EPIC (talk) 23:19, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @EPIC: you are using bureaucratic legalize language, but you didn't follow you own policy: "Before a global bot account's permissions are removed on the basis of inactivity, its operator must be notified at least on their home wiki(s) and at Meta-Wiki." making this an out of process removal.
- Your message doesn't come across as genuine at all, especially because you're using "we". Who is we? Multichill (talk) 19:34, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! What I meant by "we" was "we" as in me for the steward team. Anyways, I don't think any policy wasn't followed here. The policy states that the operator must be informed of the removal, though it does not specify any specific amount of time nor that the operator has to respond - similar to previous removals of global bot status, I therefore removed the rights accordingly, as the last edit you performed with your bot on a global bot wiki was on 25 March 2023. With that being said I may be mistaken, so please let me know if so. EPIC (talk) 21:25, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
