The Miami Metrorail is a rapid-transit system serving Miami-Dade County. As 2025, it comprises two color-coded lines (Green and Orange) over a combined length of about 39.3 km (24.4 mi) with 23 stations. It runs from Palmetto in the north to Dadeland South in the south, branching to Miami International Airport (MIA). Major transfer points include Government Center (to Metromover) and Earlington Heights (to Tri-Rail).

- Weekday Peak (Mon–Fri): every 10 min per line (combined every 5 min between Earlington Heights and Dadeland South).
- Weekday Off-Peak: every 15 min until 8 p.m. (combined ~7½ min), then every 30 min until midnight.
- Weekends (Sat–Sun): every 15–20 min.
- Airport Service (Orange Line): every 15 min; direct service on weekdays, dedicated shuttle on weekends.

Last departures vary by station but generally leave Government Center by 11:59 p.m. and Palmetto/Dadeland South by 12:00 a.m.

Getting to Miami Airport via Metrorail
Board the Orange Line; ride to Miami Airport Station. Single-fare trip costs US$2.25 (USD 2.25).
Airport route and timetable
Orange Line trains serve MIA every 15 minutes. Weekday trains run through from Dadeland South; weekends use a dedicated shuttle from Earlington Heights.
Connecting buses and other airport transport
At Miami Airport Station, transfer to the free MIA Mover (every 3–5 min) on Level 3 for terminals, rental car center, and parking garages. Tri-Rail and Metrobus stops are adjacent.
Regulations and Safety Guidelines
- Stand behind the yellow stripe until the train stops; never enter tracks.
- Do not cross between tracks; use marked crossings.
- Allow priority boarding for seniors, disabled riders, families with strollers.
- Keep aisles clear; secure strollers and luggage.
- No smoking, eating, or loud music onboard or in stations.
- Bicycles must be carried and placed in designated areas; no scooters or skateboards.
- In emergency, call 9-1-1 or Miami-Dade Transit Police (non-emergency 305-468-5900).
Miami Metro Expansion Plans
As of May 2025, no new Metrorail extensions have secured funding. The proposed South Dade Extension (from Dadeland South to Florida City) remains in preliminary study phase. Other regional projects include the Tri-Rail Coastal Link and BayLink light rail between downtown Miami and Miami Beach.
