He's brave as brave can be Send him home, send him home He's brave as brave can be Send him home He's brave as brave can be He would rather fall than flee Oh his life's so dear to me Send him home, send him home Oh, his life’s so dear to me, Send him home 2. Our foes are 10 to 3 Send him home, send him home Oh, our foes are 10 to 3 Send him home Our foes are 10 to 3 He would rather fall than flee Oh, his life's so dear to me Send him home, send him home His life’s so dear to me, Send him home 3. What makes heroic strife Famed afar, famed afar? What makes heroic strife Famed afar, famed afar? What’s right and what is wrong? A short sword and a long A weak arm and a strong For to draw, for to draw And go to take a life In bloody war! 4. So leave your schemes alone In the state, in the state Oh leave your schemes alone Well alone Leave your schemes alone Adore the rising sun And send our young men home Send them home, send them home Send all the young men home Send them home!

02 Song of the Free Go tell him to find me a parcel of land Rosemary, daisy and lily so fine Where never a gun was held in a hand Maybe that land could be yours and mine? Go tell her to find me an acre of sky Rosemary, daisy and lily so fine Where never a jet nor a missile could fly Maybe that sky could be yours and mine Go tell him to take me to some brighter shore Rosemary, daisy and lily so fine Where nobody knows the meaning of war Maybe that shore could be yours and mine? Go tell her to take me to a valley of gold Rosemary, daisy and lily so fine Where everyone’s child is allowed to grow old Maybe that valley could be yours and mine? So ask him to sail me on an ocean so wide Rosemary, daisy and lily so fine Where peace and goodwill are like the flow of the tide Maybe that ocean could be yours and mine? So ask her to sing me the song of the free Rosemary, daisy and lily so fine That will carry along across land and sea Maybe that song could be yours and mine? Maybe that song could be yours and mine?

03 Peat Bog Soldiers 1. We are the peat bog soldiers, Marching with our spades to the moor. 2. Up and down the guards are pacing, No one, no one can get through. Flight would mean a sure death facing, Guns and barbed wire greet our view. Chorus 2 We are the peat bog soldiers, Marching with our spades to the moor. Winter will in time be past. Homeland will be free at last! Chorus 3 and finale Then will the peat bog soldiers March no more with our spades to the moor Dann ziehn die Moorsoldaten Nicht mehr mit den Spaten ins Moor.

Flowers 04:02
Flowers My name it is Rose, I’m the eldest of three I went to the greenwood, as blythe as could be And there in the bracken, I met a strange man A lust in his heart, and a knife in his hand. A lust in his heart, and a knife in his hand. He said, ‘my dear flower, in the woods I must hide, For I’m banished and hunted for my crimes far and wide I am a young robber, no maid by my side But now, my fair flower, I’ll make you my bride. But now, my fair flower, I’ll make you my bride. She pleaded, ‘Young robber, I beg, set me free For I have a sister much fairer than me. Her lips are like rubies, a lover’s delight She will be your flower, she will be your bride. She will be your flower, she will be your bride. My name it is Daisy, the middle of three I went to the greenwood, as blythe as could be And there in the bracken, I met a strange man A lust in his heart, and a knife in his hand. A lust in his heart, and a knife in his hand. She pleaded, ‘Young robber, I beg, set me free For I have a sister much fairer than me. Her eyes are like diamonds, a lover’s delight She will be your flower, she will be your bride. She will be your flower, she will be your bride. My name it is Lily, the youngest of three I went to the greenwood, as blythe as could be And there in the bracken, I met a strange man A lust in his heart, and a knife in his hand. A lust in his heart, and a knife in his hand. She took out a pistol, held it firm in her hand, And took a straight shot at that faithless young man, Saying, ‘Here in the greenwood, your body will bide For I won’t be your flower, I won’t be your bride.’ I won’t be your flower, I won’t be your bride.’

Who's riding on a night so wild? It is a father with his child The boy is cradled in his arms He holds him tight, he keeps him warm. My son, what scares you over there? 'Oh Father dear, beware, beware! The Elven King is here, is here I hear him whispering in my ear: «Дитя, скорей, иди ко мне; Всегда весна в моей стране! Lady Margaret took her silver comb Made haste to comb her hair And she's gone down to the Chaser's wood As fast as she could tear, could tear As fast as she could tear. Tonight it is the Halloween When the Elven Court shall ride And if she would her true love save By the old bridge she must hide, must hide By the old bridge she must hide. Oh she looked high, and she looked low She compassed all around She nothing saw, she nothing heard She heard no mortal sound, no sound She heard no mortal sound. Until the darkest hour of night She heard the bridles ring It chilled her heart, gave her a start More than any mortal thing, oh thing More than any mortal thing. First came the black horse, then the brown Her true love rode the white She leapt and wrapped him in her arms He didn’t her affright, affright, He didn’t her affright. Then thunder roared across the sky The stars shone bright as day The Elven Queen gave a thrilling cry, "Tamlin, he is away, away Tamlin he is away." They changed him then - all in her arms Into a lion wild She held him tight, she feared him not The father of her child, her child The father of her child. Oh they changed him then - all in her arms Into a dog to bite She held him tight, she feared him not He didn’t her affright, affright, he didn’t her affright They changed him then - all in her arms To a white-hot bar of iron She held him tight, she feared him not He'd done to her no harm, no harm he’d done to her no harm. Oh they changed him then - all in her arms Into a naked man She wrapped him in her cloak so warm, "Tamlin, my love, we've won, we've won, "Tamlin, my love, we've won." "Tamlin, my love, we've won, we've won -- "Tamlin, my love, we've won."

06 The Cossack’s Bride 1. Proudly sailed the arrow-breasted Ships of Cossack yeomanry 2. On the first ship Stenka Razin Captive his princess by his side Drunken stands in marriage revels With his beautiful young bride. Like a drum my heart was beating And your kiss was sweet as wine 3. With her eyes downcast, the princess, Like a ghost in reverie, Sits in silence as her captor Rants and raves in drunken glee 4. From behind there comes a murmur Has our leader been unmade One short night and Stenka Razin For a wench has us betrayed One short night and Stenka Razin For a wench has us betrayed 5. Und sie spotten: „Selbst zum Weibe Hat den Helden sie gemacht!“ Stenka hört es – und der alte Recke ist in ihm erwacht Stenka hears this – and the princess He has circled with his hand. 6. Volga, Volga, Mother Volga, Волга – русская река! Не видала ты подарка От донского казака» You've not had yet such a present From the Cossacks of the Don. 7. Now, with one swift mighty motion He has raised his bride on high And has cast her where the waters Of the Volga roll and sigh. И за борт её бросает В набежавшую волн Schleudert weit sie in die Fluten Und die Woge trägt sie fort Though the carnival is over I will love you till I die

May Colven 02:20
07 May Colven 1. False Sir John a-wooing's gone To a maid of beauty fair May Colven was that lady's name, Her father's only heir. 2. He wooed her here, he wooed her there, He wooed her night and day Until he got the lady's consent To mount and ride away. 3. On a milk-white steed they rode away As fast as they could flee Until they came to a lonesome place A rock by the side of the sea. By the raging tide, oh they did ride To a rock beside the sea, To a rock beside the sea. 4. Leap off the steed, says false Sir John, Your bridal bed you see For seven king's daughters I have drowned And the eighth one you will be. 5. Cast off, cast off May Colven Your gown and finery, For it's ever too good and ever costly To rot in the salty sea. 6. Then turn around, oh false Sir John And look to the leaf of the tree For it never became a gentleman A naked woman to see 7. So he turned himself straight round about And looked to the leaf of the tree So swift as May Colven was, She pushed him in the sea! In the raging tide, oh he will bide For she pushed him in the sea, Oh! she pushed him in the sea. 8. Oh help, oh help, May Colven, Oh help, or else I'll drown And I'll take you back to your father's hall And leave you safe and sound 9. No help, no help, oh false Sir John, No help or pity for thee, For seven king's daughters you have drowned, And the eighth one I won't be! 10. So she got on her milk-white steed And swiftly rode away And she got back to her father's hall Before the break of day By the raging tide, oh she did ride So far from the briny sea, So far from the briny sea.

5. And if I die here, in the resistance O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao And if I die here, in the resistance You must lay me in my grave 6. This is the flower of the resistance O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao This is the flower of the resistance And those who died for liberty 11. as verse 10

09 Where Have All the Flowers Gone? 1. Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing. Where have all the flowers gone? Long time ago. Where have all the flowers gone? Gone to young girls, every one. When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn? 2. Where have all the young girls gone? Wann wird man je verstehen, When will we ever learn? 3. Where have all the young men gone? When will we ever learn? 4. Where have all the soldiers gone? When will we ever learn? 5. Where have all the graveyards gone? When will we ever learn? 6. Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing. When will we ever learn? Wann wird man je verstehen? When will we ever learn?

10 Those Were the Days 1. Chorus 2 Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way 2 Then the busy years went rushing by us We lost our starry notions on the way If by chance I'd see you in the tavern We'd smile at one another and we'd say Chorus 1 – An jenem Tag… Chorus 2 – Those were… Chorus 4 and finale Дорогой длинною, да ночкой лунною, Die Zeit blieb' steh'n allein nur für uns zwei! For we were young and sure to have our way

about

Michell, Pfeiffer & Kulesh present their full-length debut album: Flowers.

Praised by Songlines Magazine as "an astute mix of traditional and original songs with arrangements that delight the ear... harmony singing so tight that you couldn't blow smoke between them...”, the album went on to gain multiple 5-star reviews and was named Album of the Week by both FATEA Magazine and Celtic Music Radio; as well as making it onto Folk London's Best Albums of 2024 List, whilst also being shortlisted for Album of the Year 2024 by Celtic Music Radio. The trio were also nominated for Band of the Year at the 2024 FATEA Awards.

These three female voices from three different cultures rise in sublime harmony, weaving powerful stories that have moved people across borders, languages, and times. Exquisite, yet far from purely decorative, this rich, multilingual record evokes images of flowers placed in rifle barrels; it tells stories of women who certainly aren't blushing roses to be picked or discarded at will. Featuring a strong theme of female empowerment and a heartfelt plea for peace, 'Flowers' is truly an album for our times - yet it is also deeply rooted in the timeless folk tradition. As The Morning Star wrote, these are "folksongs that tell stories of female empowerment and a desire for peace... As relevant as ever in our current times...”
