For catalog no. 5, MiZi unveils ‘Christian XII,’ the anticipated first solo EP on the label label by co-founder Mila Stern. Explosive, jarring, and strangely beautiful, Raver Kitsch is a sonic manifesto equal parts rave, punk, and raw machine poetry, including a remix by French techno heavyweight Madben.

The title track is an encapsulation of Mila Stern’s fever-dream energy: grating resonators, mangled static impacts, and compact, white-noise-heavy drums intertwine in a scorching symphony of malfunctioning circuitry, enveloped in waves of beautifully glitching pads suspended in the mayhem. ‘Raver Kitsch’ is Mila at her most sonically fearless: finding the unique and captivating beauty in the fracturing of her elements and the physicality of their collapse.

Madben’s remix sculpts the original’s jagged contours into a deep, floor-filling techno missile. Stretching ‘Raver Kitsch’s’ raw soundscapes into dubby, spaced-out energy arcs, Madben expands the original’s volatile soundbites into captivating percussive and melodic themes. The result is a
shuddering translation into a deeper, more hypnotising, and floor-focused language that imposes powerful dancefloor structures while retaining its core intensity.

Finally, ghostly breakbeat track ‘Citation Needed’ delivers a throbbing change of pace. Dialling down the noise but not the tension, Citation Needed sends eerie echoes ricocheting across the frequency spectrum, slowly orbiting a relentless low-end core punctuated by grating resonators. Minimal, menacing, and groovy, Mila delivers a stripped concept track pulsing with restrained fury.

With ‘Christian XII,’ Mila Stern delivers a love letter to sonic imperfection and the unique energies that result from embracing it. Suffused by a strange, pad-heavy beauty, Raver Kitsch powerfully embodies the raw, the real, and the resolutely unpolished—emotionally, and as an art form within dance music.
